Kinky Curly Knot Today Vs. Curl Enhancing Smoothie?

Everywhere I go I'm constantly hearing about how awesome the Kinky Curly Knot Today leave-in is. Is it better than Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie? What are all of your opinions/results? I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to buy it.

They aren't really comparable, Knot Today is an oil free detangler and film former, the Shea Moisture smoothie is a butter/ oil based styling product. Ingredients wise they are chalk and cheese.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG. Past bra strap length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut/ Elvive Volume Collagen
Treatments: Komaza Care Matani, coconut/ sweet almond/ fractionated coconut oils, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Au Naturale styling gelee
Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.
    Experimenting with: benign neglect

I didn't feel that KCKT did anything for my hair (I don't need a detangler and it isn't moisturizing enough for my hair.) While I use a lot of really rich products (in minute amounts), the Smoothie is way to "heavy" for my hair (if you understand the difference.) It just sits and doesn't get absorbed. Had to wash it out.
3a (Corkicelli), highlighted, fine, low porosity

HGs: Anything Sevi; Curly Kinks Satin Roots, Curlycue ReNew and Coil Jam; homemade FSG and okra gel; soap bars; UFD Curly Magic; Botanical Spirits Jellies, CJ Repair Me, Aloe Fix

If you're looking for actual conditioning properties in a leave-in, I would say neither are going to do that for you.

If your main goal is detangling, KCKT is a great one. I've used it, and love it; it seemed to add a lot of slip for my stylers and make them distribute more easily. Unfortunately, I just found out it has a relatively high pH, so I've removed it from my lineup.

The smoothie is chock full of butters/ oils, so is better as a sealing product, in my opinion. For me, it ended up being too heavy and left a producty, tangly feeling in my hair.

So, the big question you need to answer is what benefits are you after with a leave in?
    2C/ Coarse/ Normal porosity/ SW Florida/ Salt & Pepper
Cleanse: AIA cowash, TJ Tea Tree Condish
Condish: JC Too Shea, Tresemme Botanique
Stylers: flax/okra gel or KCCC + CJ PP or JC Spiralicious
Experimenting with Got2B Ultra gel and loving it so far!

I really want a leave-in that gives me slip (because I finger detangle my hair when I style) but will also give my hair some moisture, without drying it out.

When I used the curl enhancing smoothie as a leave-in, my hair was a huge greasy tangled mess. That's why I was curious about trying the KCKT because so many people like it. But then again, a lot of people like the curl enhancing smoothie and look what that did! Haha.

Yes, the KCKT will give you lots of slip....but not much as far as conditioning. You could always add some of your regular condish as a leave in, and add some KCKT on top for slip.

Is it better as a sealer then?

No, it has no oils so it's not a good sealer....it just has a lot of botanical ingredients that provide good slip.

I just said to use it over another conditioner if you were looking for conditioning/ moisturizing properties too, because the KCKT isn't really good at that. But it IS an excellent detangler.

It's a water based detangler, you can't seal with water. IMO consider carefully what you mean by 'moisturising' - do you actually mean conditioning? Do you want less dry hair, clumping, shine, slip/ detangling, protection from damage or something else?

I actually adore the Shea Moisture Smoothie, though I had to learn what was the right amount to use. I'm actually curious to try it under the KCCC to see what happens.

As far as KCKT goes, I mixed it with my regular conditioner (I use Aubrey Organics) and we'll see how that turns out.
2C/3A; very, very thick fine to medium hair; low porosity.

    Current Products:
    Co-Wash: As I Am Cleansing Co-Wash
Conditioner: Shea Moisture Tahitian Masque, Aubrey Organics GPB, Shea Moisture
Leave-In: Coffee Coco Curl Creme, Coffee Coco Curl Creme Lite
Stylers: Mop Top Curl Custard, Shea Moisture Curl Custard[/FONT]

Smoothie is more of a styler than LI. I always use a leave in under it.. Personally, I use the SM curl and style milk and coconut oil to detangle/leave in.. Then put on the smoothie.

I'm going to try KCKT once I diminish my supply a bit though!

when I used to wear my hair out I found using both gave me the best results. I would wash with my regular shampoo, then use the KCKT while my hair was still basically dripping wet and comb through to detangle (I have A LOT of thick 3c/4a hair) then apply the Curl Smoothie after and let it air dry. Perfect curls every time. Even two days later! Definitely two of my favorites.

I must be the odd duck in the pond. I have lots of course, 3a,3b dry curls, and my hair loves KCKT, as a LI conditioner. I do not need it as a detangler, as I conditioner wash, I use KCCC in the Fall and Winter and LaBella Sport Gel in the Summer. KCKT is a great leave in moisturizer for me and a lot of curly girls on the forum. Shea Moisture products are too heavy for me even when I use minuscule amounts, I wanted to love them but my hair doesn't.
Good luck in your search for the right products, what works for one curly may not work for another.
