Finger Coiling?

So I was on YouTube, and I came across some videos of girls finger coiling their hair. I LOVE how it looks when they do it. Have any of you tried doing this method? What were your results? I have 3b/3c hair that's course & dry and I really want to know if this will work on my hair.

I have 3c/3b hair and I have done finger coils on a few occasions. Here were my results. ImageUploadedByCurlTalk1372130894.496446.jpg

Omg your hair looks beautiful! Did you use any gel to hold the curls together? Or just a leave-in?

I think 3b/c is the ideal curl pattern for it since out curls are around the size of our finger. I've never done it deliberately as a style all over my head, but I have done it to strategically shape the curls framing my face. It doesn't require any additional product to stay, but gel will always give you more uniform results.

I have 3b/c hair & I'm not sure i could do it because my curls are smaller than but fingers. But I will give it a shot. Jeliah your hair looks gorgeous. It reminds me of a curl form set.

I think I'm gonna give it a try either tomorrow, or on Friday after I wash my hair. I really hope it works, since my hair is pretty coarse. This is how it looks now (it's a bit frizzy because I diffused earlier)

I'll definitely be posting my results though!

Because I'm 3c and not a mix of 3b/c some of my curls are smaller than my larger fingers, but they're not so much smaller I can't finger curl. If that's the case you're probably not 3b/c. Curl size is the main description of curl type. Most people with 3b have curls larger than their fingers.

This particular time I used a curl cream. But I have done it with live in only,But only in the cooler months. I would use gel(I like flaxseed gel) this time of year. Btw I looove your hair. What do you use to color it?

Oh okay. I was thinking of using one of the leave-ins I have, and then adding some of the eco styler gel to it since it doesn't make my hair stiff/hard. Hopefully I have good results.

&& Thank you! I used John Frieda's hair dye in the color Deep Cherry Brown. The color was the same as the box which rarely ever happens (at least for me, haha).

My hair is definitely curly. My ringlets diameter is very small. I think it's because my hair is short. I think they will widen as my hair grows.

3a/b curls here, and I finger coil the top part of my hair. it helps lift the curls and give them some root volume. I don't have time to do the entire head like the youtube video I've seen, but it looks pretty when she's done. :)

Thanks guys! It took forever to do though, ugh. Anyways, here's how my hair looked after taking all of them apart. I'm so impressed! I didn't expect the curls to be so defined and full! I'm definitely not doing this on a regular basis though, my arms were killing me, haha.

Most people still take texture for curl size. I think? That's the only way to understand some of these comments. LoL!

Anyway, 3b curls are the size of a marks a lot marker to the size of a super sharpie marker. At sharpie you're a 3c. 3c goes down to drinking straw size, at which point you're right at 4a. 4a goes down to coffee stirrer size.

    I've seen 3c's who are CLEARLY 3c's thinking they're 4a. I'm always like....

    Whut?

    LoL!!

Anyway anyone can do finger coils. Even 4c's. :)

    Will I be doing them?????

Ain't nobody got time fo dat!! LoL! I'm way too lazy to spend hours twirling. Plus with my hair next day somehow it would all unravel in my sleep!! Hours wasted. LoL!

I do this all the time basically, Ive been doing it for years, it takes me only half an hour to 40 min now. I do it only once a week, maybe twice if my hair got really messy.

I havent found another way to make my curls look defined. If i don't finger coil, my hair looks like a big frizzy mess, and the curls are not defined and dont clump together at all, the curls are way smaller/tighter then as well, which makes it look a lot shorter!

I hate doing it but I like the result =P I've been looking for another way to style my hair for ages, but nothing seems to work. I thought that maybe different products would help, so I tried a million things, but nothing seems to work. Maybe its just my hair... I'm mixed race, my mother is half black and half white and my dad is Arab/north african, so that's maybe why I have so many different curl patterns which makes it harder to style... Still looking for new styling techniques tho, because yes I got so used to doing it, that it goes much quicker... But I still find it too time consuming. Frustrating!

I'm not sure about the properties. My hair type is a mix of 3b, mostly 3c and some bits of 4a I'd say. Most parts of my hair are highly porous I think, its quite dense. The strands on the front of my head are thinner than the ones on the top and back which are really thick and course. My hair is mostly really dry and prone to breakage (so low elasticity, I think?)

I'm currently using sm style milk, a leave in from I think unknown brand from a local shop for natural cosmetics (love this stuff when I've just applied and as the day continues, but my hair seems to drink it because the nxt day its really dry again) and Ive been trying to find a way to work with eco styler (i really dislike it so far, so I'm gonna let it go I think) I use flaxseed gel sometimes, I really like it but it doesn't give me enough hold on its own with just a leave in, so need to use other products as well, which is annoying because if I need other products anyway, I might as well leave it out ,so I'm on and off with it. I am actually waiting for a delivery from a online shop. I made a big order because I wanted to try out some more things because I've been rotating between products lately since my hair doesn't seem to like any product at the moment =P I ordered some curl junkie products, some original moxie stuff and I forgot the name of the other brand... =/ I think it was hair whip something.. can't remember..

It's hard to figure out what products. Definitely do a search on here. Many curlies use multiple products- like myself. So you shouldn't feel that using more than one makes a product pointless. Different products have different uses and each provide different ingredients that you need. I suggest really researching ingredients and figuring out what your hair likes.
