Length affecting waves?

MonsterMessMonsterMess Posts: 10Registered Users
Does anybody have any story or pictures of their hair at different lengths? The last time I had hair above the collar bone was three years ago, but I was constantly straightening. My hair falls right below my breasts now and I want to chop it off to right above my collar bone. I'm so nervous about how it will affect my 2c, though.

My hair type is very similar to yours, and the same length so maybe my experience could help. If you decide to cut it, it will curl more, I usually ask for cuts 2 to 4 inches longer than they would do on straight hair, and I never use razors because they make my hair look damaged at the ends personally. Anywhere you put layers you'll have more body, so choose the shape wisely. My personal favorite haircut that's shorter for your hair type is the one this website calls a "Lob". It has shorter layers in the back and sits just above the shoulders in the front, which isn't really layered at all. Vanessa Hudgens had it I believe. It would look cute straightened but I think that cut makes a lot out of this hair texture because it can go from beachy wavy in the front, to romantic/sexy/curly with some coaxing. If I chop mine, it's at the top of my list of possible haircuts right now especially since it's a great wash and go style. If you're looking for something even more drastic our hair texture can rock short styles like a boss.

My hair is straight at very short lengths (pixie short). It needs more length to start curling. As it gets longer, the weight pulls the curls out into looser and looser waves. My hair is coarse and dense, though.
Salt & pepper wavy mix 2B/2C
Low to normal porosity, coarse, kinky, normal elasticity
    Current favorites:
Low poo: Yes To Cukes Color Protection (the no sulfate one)
Conditioners: Renpure MPHIP, CJ Smoothing Lotion, AB LI, CJ Curl Rehab, CJ Argan/Olive, Darcy's Pumpkin
    Style: FSG, BRHG
Pre-poo/DT: Conditioner with honey & coconut oil

As my hair gets longer, the waves get tighter and clumps start to spiral. If shorter than shoulder length, my waves are very very loose. At pixie my hair is stick straight!

I do the same. I'm actually a 3 with 2's mixed in but when my hair is shorter, it more waves. As it gets longer it curls more. It is also very moldable. I can wrap it in a bun when wet or braid it, when it's past my shoulders, and get waves, but I can only get it straight with an iron.

At all one long (middle of back) length, my hair is basically 3b.

My hair is thick and dense but somehow the weight makes it curl up more, rather than pull out.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

My hair is less spiral-y when it's long and it's straight at the top.
This is the last time my hair was longggg! This is from 2010

And this recent cut ( couple weeks ago) is the shortest I have ever had it in a long time.

Less weight definitely helps tighten my curl pattern.

My hair got quite a bit wavier when I cut it too. Here you can see it when it was long. Last fall I cut it to just at my shoulders. Then this winter I cut it jaw length.
