Co-washing doesn't work for me

There, I said it! I was CG 3 years ago when my hair was long (prior to having my daughter) and it worked great, for the most part. At the time I thought I had medium/coarse, porous hair.

I did a big chop after the 3 months postpartum hair-loss. I now have chin-length hair that has never seen a straightening or curling iron and very little blowdrying.

Now my hair is acting like fine, low porosity hair. Someone tell me how to work with this, because I have no idea.

Also, does anyone else notice that co-washing makes your hair look darker? I'm not ok with this. My auburn hair looks dull, dirty brown if I don't low-poo (or even sulfate poo) regularly. I love the curls, but not the flat, icky brown that I get with co-washing.

There are plenty of people here who need to no-, low-, or even shampoo on a more or less regular basis. My hair tends to be dry, so I'm trying mostly cowashing with an occasional low-poo and it seems to be working for me so far.

LOW POO! There's nothing wrong with using low-poo. Many fine haired wavies cannot co-wash. It weighs down their hair too much. :) In the spring and summer, I low poo twice a week. In the winter and fall, I low poo once a week and co-wash once a week. Then my stylist uses sulfate shampoo when I get my hair cut (about every 3 months). My hair doesn't look dull at all and it feels great.

I with you in the darker hair thing. I low poo a few times a week and cowash in between. My harsher clarifier is used twice a month to remove hard water build up. My hair is darker blonde with light blonde pieces throughout. My actual roots are lighter I noticed. Strictly cowashing and the CG method made my hair look dirty because it was noticeably darker... Like my boyfriend even noticed lol.
Just do what works for you. If you need to low poo or shampoo now in then do it!

I think it's either buildup or the fact that the hair is retaining more moisture...hair is always darker wet than dry.

My hair seems darker since I started curly girl as well. I don't strictly co wash because my hair is too fine but it definitely appears darker. I also made some flax seed gel, and I really liked it but my hair was definitely darker and kind of dull looking with it so I haven't made any more of it.

I'm glad I came into this subforum. I just started CG method this week. My hair is so dark.

I usually have medium blond with light blond highlights (natural highlights) and my lighter strands are just gone. I really liked my natural highlights.

I'm trying to figure out my hair. So, I'm wavy for sure. Everything from loose waves to really curly almost ringlet waves.

I believe my hair is low porosity. It's very smooth and squeaks when I did the finger slid. It also takes several hours to dry.

I have fine to medium texture. Mostly fine on top and then it gets a little thicker. The thicker strands are curly as well.

I've co-washed once (using GF Pure and Clean) and then "washed" with just water yesterday. My hair is just so dark and wet looking. It looks like I have a ton of gel in my hair, but I have no product in it.

I bought some sulfate free poo today. I'm hoping my hair will be better using that. I'm not liking this heavy, greasy, wet, dark look.
