who knew hair was so difficult??

Man, my head is spinning with all this information.

I figured out My hair is 2C (maybe 2B) low porosity, high density, coarse hair.

All I have so far is that I might need an anti-humectant because I live in S. Louisiana where humidity is always very high.

There are so many techniques I don't know where to start. Cowash, rinse or leave-in, shampoo?? Then what type of product?

I know my hair can definitely improve.

I'm 10 months in to growing out a dyed pixie. My hair just touches my shoulders. About 2 inches of my normally dark brown hair is golden from processing, so when my hair grows more that's getting cut off.

Oh, I do know I need to start using a microfiber towel or old t-shirt.

any guidance? Thanks!
currently 2b/2c, but will probably be a 3a once I figure all this out

thick, mixed porosity thanks to dyeing

My best advice is to find several wavies with similar hair properties and read all their posts. When I started CG I spent the first several weekends just reading old posts and absorbing everything.

It's best to start with a few basic products. Based on your properties you'll probably want a cowash (As I Am and Suave Coconut condish are inexpensive and popular), another condish for a rinse out and/or leave-in and a medium to hard hold gel. Keep in mind that whatever you pick will most likely be just to get started, it usually takes a while to find the perfect products.

    Welcome and good luck!

It';s likely your lightened ends are not low porosity even if your lengths are. Ingredients that are beneficial for damaged or colour treated hair include coconut oil, hydrolysed protein, ceramides and panthenol, you can just treat the ends if you don't feel the whole head is benefiting from these.

Agree with Lynae start with a co-wash, I would go for something cheap and light like the Suave Naturals or V05. You can try any of those as your rinse out and even leave in, then switch to something richer if you feel you need it. Body Shop Rainforest Moisture and Tresemme Naturals are both rated by many as good basic conditioners for rinse out and leave in.

Would be best to limit glycerin, aloe vera, honey and propylene glycol as these are all humectants. You can use some especially if they are way down the ingredients list, just don't end up with a routine packed with humectants! Obviously avoid silicones, many polyquats and butters since these can all easily build up, plant oils work well as 'anti humectants' and co-washing removes the excess easily. Products at pH ~4.5 can help the cuticle lay flat reducing frizz and discouraging porosity.

If you purchase a basic hard hold gel like Ecostyler you can use it as it is or experiment with making a small batch of 'Ecostyler custard' to add a little extra 'anti humectant'. I would imagine you could do the same trick with any basic gel, such as LA Looks Sport.
