Getting rid of heat, and products?!

Hi there, I've got a few questions and I'm reeeeeeaaalllly hoping someone can help me! I'm mixed, I've got 3c hair, I use TRESemme "climate control" mousse, and a defuser on my hair, almost everyday. I wash with shampoo probably once or twice a week, but condition is everyday, I also massage cocoa butter on my scalp before styling with mouse. I HOPE that's enough information to get started!

So here my problem, my hair is SUPER SUPER dry! I wanna transition to get rid of my defuser but my hair just doesn't style the way I like it, I sometimes sleep with my hair wet with product in it which sort of works, but I hate sleeping with wet hair. Anyway, any tips how I can get rid of the heat?

I'd also like to get rid of products all together :goofy: if thats even possibly with ma crazy hair. I'm going to be in Africa for who knows how long doing missions trips and I highly doubt I'll be able to get my hands on Frizz-ease or anything else while I'm there. Any tips on how I could do this as well? Maybe move on to creams and oils? And ween my hair off the products??

Anyway, your tips are MUCH appreciated! THANKS!

What are your hair properties and what are all the products you are using? Have you heard of the Curly Girl method? If you have no idea what I am on about check out the stickies on the newbies and this board.

That mousse is a chemical soup, I don't see anything that will benefit hair, just stuff that can build up. Do you have a dry scalp? Beneficial ingredients may not be able to penetrate if you hair is coated in silicones (suffix -cone, -conol, -xane) and polyquats so consider eliminating these from your routine.

Oils and butters don't moisturise hair in that they do not add or attract water, they help seal and protect, some can absorb into porous hair especially coconut oil. Coconut oil plus sugar syrup/ honey make a wonderful moisturising deep treatment and these should be ingredients you can source in Africa.

As far as styling products you might experiment with making up an Ecostyler custard (basic hair gel plus avocado or coconut oil, see YouTube), a good quality aloe vera gel (natural humectant so attracts water, but not suited to all dew points/ humidities) or DIY okra gel. These might all be items you can source/ make in Africa?

It's not necessarily drying or damaging to use a diffuser, just use a low heat and leave hair still partly damp. Daily wetting/ washing can be damaging especially if you have porous hair.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG. Past bra strap length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut/ Elvive Volume Collagen
Treatments: Komaza Care Matani, coconut/ sweet almond/ fractionated coconut oils, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Au Naturale styling gelee
Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.
    Experimenting with: benign neglect
