3 month old baby! Help!!!

Hi, I have a 3 month old cousin, and something happened that REALLY scared me! I had already fed him his bottle so I was in the process of burping him (the shoulder method). The bib that I had over my shoulder slipped off and I went to grab it with the hand that I was patting his back with. But at that moment he decided to lurch back very quickly which resulted in his back arching and I heard a quiet 'pop' sound! He immediately started crying and I held him, soothing him until he stopped. He only cried for a minute, then he was fine. But this really scared me...He's not seriously injured is he? After the incident, he went back to his normal self. My mom said that he should be fine because he was moving okay, and didn't continue to cry/scream. I just hope someone on here has had this happen to them before. I feel awful! :(

As long as he's moving all his extremities OK, I wouldn't worry. Sounds like you just "cracked" his back...which isn't actual cracking, but rather just breaking a vacuum of fluid within a joint which makes a popping noise, and isn't harmful.

Have you told his parents? I would let them decide if they want to take further action. But it doesn't sound like much. It might have been a burp.

I agree with both above. He is probably fine if he isn't crying but just tell the parents as an FYI. Babies are notorious for lurching backwards. :D

Thanks, everyone. Yes, I have told his mum (my aunt). She was glad that he was okay, and he's moving and acting like normal. I was just really paranoid!
