3b / high porosity.. where should I start?

CassiaCassia Posts: 6Registered Users
Hi! I am new here and I wanted to try the co-washing. Right now I am in a hate relationship with my hair :-( but then I found this! But I'm not sure where to start. Right now I'm using Clear shampoo and conditioner, la bella curly hair gel and sauve (8) hairspray. By the middle of the day my hair looks so dry! I want to stop using so much in my hair. Which products should I start with? I know I will have to experiment but I kind of wanted a starting ground! Please help!!!

i am not familiar with those products. they may not be curl friendly.

you have to start with a regular shampoo, sulfates, to wash out any/all cones that were in your hair.
then you go to using cone-free conditioners. leaving in some conditioner is crucial for curlies!! curls need MOISTURE.

you also need to figure out, as best you can, your properties. livecurlylivefree.com is a good place to start for info. also, curl junkie blogspot, keep scrolling back in time. also, the newbie threads here. and, the 'curly girl book,' by lorraine massey, 2009 edition.

it seems confusing at first, but you will take in the basics and go from there. don't worry about things you don't understand at this point.

if your hair is porous (dries quickly, like under 2 hours?) then you need to seal in your conditioner leave in. this is crucial for your hair type. some use oils, like grapeseed oil, others use butters, like jane carter nourish & shine, or spiral solutions emollience....

if your hair texture is fine, you will need protein to help keep in the moisture. i can recommend curl junkie repair me as a protein and deep conditioning treatment. easy to use, and no need for deep conditioning afterwards, as it's really a two-in-one for most of us.

good luck, you will get there and be happy.

    3a, some 2c & 3b, medium texture, porosity normal, low elasticity :-(
washing/cowashing, conditioning, protein tx: curl junkie products
leave in:cj conditioners and treatments as leave in
styling: cj aloe fix gel, cj pattern pusha, cj honey butta leave in, cj cccc, cj ciab.
sealants - jane carter nourish & shine

I'm pretty sure La Bella gel is CG but the hairspray is not. Never heard of the other product.

If you want to strictly co-wash, you have I make sure to not use any silicone in your hair and I'm pretty sure the hairspray has silicone and you wanna make sure the conditioner doesn't either.

Yea I read that. I am going to check out the cleansing conditioners to see which one has better reviews.
