Modernizing Military Hair Regulations to Accomodate Natural Hair

Hi my curly whirlies!

I'm new here, but I wanted to start out of the gate with some serious curly-haired subject matter.

My name is Erika Wilson, and I've been naturally curly for four years. It's been fun going through products like candy!

Recently, I've decided to enlist in the US Navy and, you may or may not be aware, but there is significant discrimination for women with afro textured hair in the US military. Women in the military (particularly the US Navy) can be discharged for "faddish" hairstyles which includes locs and twists. I understand the need for regulations for safety and uniformity.

However, Everyone should agree that there is zero tolerance in today's military for any type of discrimination. I'm proud to serve in a military that allows gays to openly embrace their loved one and accepts women's right to fight and die for this country. The same should be true for women with neatly manicured afro textured hair. I've started a petition on

Please know that the petition must gain 100,000 signatures to be read by a policy official or even our very own Commander in Chief. If this topic is of no interest to you, all I ask is that you share it with someone else.

Thank you,

-Erika Wilson
