Hi I started wearing my hair natural back in August so I've done the whole trial and error thing. Im a 3c too. One thing I will say is kinky curly curling custard and knot today seems to work universally for just about everyone. But I'm a grad student and I don't have that kind of money to pay for that. I found that things I could buy in the grocery store for $5 work just as well. I sort of went with a cross between the curly girl method and the tightly curly method. I cowash with vo5 and condition with Aussie moist. I use pink ecostyler and get the same result as with kinky curly. It's not all natural but for a better price and bigger bottle with the same results... Really just find what works for you, don't fall into the product junky trap, and remember more expensive doesn't always mean better.

I second Verlis price is no indicator of effectiveness, I've used a lot of expensive products with fairly average results. What I am using now is all super cheap and my hair is loving them (I'm in Australia so i'm not sure you could get a hold of them).

I found theses products because I started looking not at the labels but at the property's of them. In my hairs case its dry, thick and prone to fuzz and split ends. Looking for products with properties that address these issues has resulted in soft strong hair.

Keep in mind - YOUR HAIR IS DEAD. There a limit to what any product can do for your hair. Because of that limitation the difference in the nature of a $$ product Vs a $$$ product (or in my case a $ product :thumbright:) is also going to be very limited if not spurious.

    Goodluck :)

I suggest starting here and figuring out your hair properties (texture, porosity), then reading through at least the rest of the Curly Hair Education articles. Knowing your properties helps in choosing products that will better work for your hair. People often list their fave products in their siggies, so once you know your properties, you can watch siggies for others with similar hair and see what they like. Products used by someone with similar properties should work better for you than products used by someone with opposite properties.

If you've decided to go CG (eliminate silicones and sulfates), you can start off with a silicone free sulfate shampoo for your final sulfate wash (Suave Naturals, VO5, or Garnier Fructis Pure Clean are all silicone free), a light cowash conditioner (Suave Naturals or VO5 are both cheap options you can find most anywhere), a thicker /richer one for your rinse out conditioner (Tresemme Naturals is a decent choice), and a styler (mousse, gel, curl cream, whatever you prefer).
