Protein free products

Well just got my hair analysis back and with some help after posting on the main hair forum have discovered my hair HATES protein. After being told all my life I have coarse dense hair the analysis came back medium texture, normal porosity. Pretty sad no stylist has ever told me that...they always say my hair is just dry and coarse. No help there. So I'm trying to get a ton of moisture back in my hair and was hoping other protein hating curlies could help with recommending products. Made an emergency run to target yesterday since ALL of my products had protein and picked up mixed chicks deep conditoner, KC come clean and Got 2 be gel. That's all they had with no protein. Any suggestions??

From personal experience, I would be careful with the KC Come Clean- I've used sulfate shampoos that are less drying. With medium texture you might still be able to use some proteins in some products, so if you're going completely protein-free, be sure to watch for signs of being over conditioned. Some proteins that are better tolerate by protein sensitive hair are keratin and silk proteins.
If you hair is as dry as you describe, you can probably do more co-washing. VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea conditioner is protein-free and nice and light- it's absolutely my favorite co-wash. I can't recommend a protein-free low-poo because I seek out protein products, but I think the Ouidad cleansing conditioner is protein-free (but more expensive).
A very popular protein-free, super-moisturizing conditioner is GVP Conditioning Balm. It's available at Sally's. Many people also use it as a deep conditioning treatment by adding some oils and leaving on their hair for 20+ minutes.

I have to clarify my scalp at least once a week because of buildup...my scalp is oily. The KCCC should be good for that. I'll check out the V05 for a cowash...hopefully they'll have it around here. I've been dying to try the GVP but everytime I go to Sallys they are out. Apparently its very popular. Thanks for the input!

Another popular option for co-washing that might be good for the oily scalp is either Trader Joe or Giovanni Tea Tree conditioners- I haven't tried them myself, but I'm considering it. I always had oily scalp issues and still cleanse my hair daily (I alternate between co-washing, cleansing conditioners, low-poos and a very gentle sulfate shampoo, depending on how my hair feels that day). I've found, since doing the CG thing, that I can go without washing for one or two days (as long as I'm not doing karate), but I don't like how my curls look. But the oil has definitely decreased, as I've been using more gentle cleansers. I have the best luck with cleansing conditioner because I feel like it's the best of both worlds between co-washing and low-poo.

I have the Giovanni but it dries my hair out as well. Maybe once I get my protein/moisture balanced out I can try it again. It cleaned my scalp good but killed my hair.

The shampoo. I think they both have protein too. I checked out the V05 too but it has sulfates.

I'm a 4c with low porosity, so my hair hates protein too.
As I Am products are good. My hair loves AIA cowash, and Camille Rose Naturals Fresh Curl is a good moisturizer (this can be found online and at some Targets). Good luck on your natural journey.

thank you for this! I have low porosity too and protein filled products ruin my hair in the winter months.

Conditioners are not chelating AFAIK, you need a fairly decent strength of a couple of acids to chelate. The Malibu C sachets are chelating, there are several variants so you might find one or more which is protein-free.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG. Past bra strap length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut/ Elvive Volume Collagen
Treatments: Komaza Care Matani, coconut/ sweet almond/ fractionated coconut oils, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Au Naturale styling gelee
Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.
    Experimenting with: benign neglect
