CurlTalk

I have a question from a customer, would like your input please!

So I work for a discount department store and one of the things we sell is hair dryers. A curly customer came in a few days ago looking for a hair dryer with a good diffuser. She looked like maybe a 3b/3c-ish. She had her hair up so I'm just going by the loose curls I could see, but it looks like we have similar curls.

So her question was this: does the size of a diffuser end determine how good it works on hair? Like, the bigger the better? I was honest with her and told her that since I'm growing my hair out, I'm avoiding excess heat, but as long as a diffuser does its job it works for me. (I have a diffuser, which I let her know, but I don't use it a lot.) She liked my take on it, which was good! Hahaha.

Anyway I'm just asking since I want to make sure I'm more informed on Diffusers, so I can provide the best possible customer service now and in the future. We carry Revlon and Chi, Vidal Sassoon, and a few others, in case that helps :) Thanks!

I just switched a small shallow diffuser for a bigger bowl shaped one (so from the one that came with my dryer to the on-air pro universal) the difference is honestly surprising. I have less frizz and curlier faster drying. Best I can guess is that the bigger deeper bowl allows for better air flow.

I agree...deeper "bowl". However, most of the diffusers that come with dryers are more of a shallow bowl type, but you can always upgrade to a universal diffuser with a deeper bowl.

    Smaller holes in the diffuser.

I have one that blows my hair around almost as much as the nozzle. The point is to have little 'blowing' like a hood dryer.
I've gone back to my hot sock.

I agree with the bigger, deeper bowl type diffusers, and think that ones with "fingers" help keep hair from getting blown around too much.

I have one of the pancake dryers, and find the diffuser next to useless as the holes are too big, and I'm afraid of getting my hair trapped inside the dryer. So that's a factor too.

Hot socks are about the only reasonable option if you're traveling, and relying on hotel dryers, but like the pancake dryers, they need to be kept away from direct contact with hair.
