Been reading for days...still confused

Hi CGs,
I know this has been posted before, I'm sure. I am just totally lost as to what products I need for my hair. I've been reading this sight and others for days and I'm more confused now. I see many people list tons of products in their signatures and it is soooo overwhelming. I think I have my hair type figured out, but even that I'm iffy on. I believe I have medium to low porosity, coarse, high density hair. I can't determine if my hair is 2C or 3A. If there are any recommendations, I appreciate it. I guess what I really am looking for is a check list kinda thing, not even names of specific products, just like what kind of products.

Welcome, envyingMerida10! Many of us were overwhelmed and confused with all the information here at first. It will all fall into place! I found this link really helpful when I started here:
Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics
It will help you determine the ingredients to look for and which you may want to avoid.
3B, fine, normal to low porosity
    Modified CG since June 2010
HGs: FSG, anything with glycerin, Tresemme Naturals conditioner, Curls Like Us cloths, satin pillowcases.

    Hi,

I second the live curly site - very helpful!

When I started its helped me to think of the products in 3 sections

    - getting rid of build up (a cleansing silicone free conditioner, sulphate free shampoo or baking soda rinse)
    - moisturising ( silicone free conditioner, deep treatment or leave in)
    - styling (silicone free mousse or gel, or make ur own flax seed gel - recipe is on NC)

I tend to use a combination of above depending on how my hairs feeling (if it has build up I'll shampoo or use baking soda rather than a cleansing conditioner).

I will occasionally use a sealer (oil) or protein mask. Getting the recipe/amount right takes some practice!

    Hth :)

The basics products you'll need are:

1- clarifying shampoo with no -cones for your "last wash" (I'm sure you have one at home that will work. Otherwise pick up a travel size Johnson's baby shampoo).
2- conditioner for co washing (most people use a cheap one since you'll use a lot)
3- low poo (optional- lots of people here still wash- make sure its sulfate and cone free)
4- a thicker, richer conditioner to use for deep conditioning, rinse out, & leave in (this is an area where it's fun to experiment- one with protein, one without, etc)
5- lighter leave-in condish (optional- you can just use your reg condish, just less of it or watered down a little)
6- tee shirts for drying hair, plopping (or microfiber towels)
7- wide tooth comb (optional)- you can also just use your fingers
8- diffuser if you'll be blow drying
9- oil for sealing after your leave-in (optional- but works for lots of people!)
10- styling products- start with the KIND of product you like to use now (mousse, gel, cream, jelly), just make sure there are no silicones in them. A lot of people experiment with all these types....hence all the crazy product-laden signatures on this site! ;)

Good luck! It is possible to do this simply, but you can easily become a product junkie too and end up with 10 condishes, 10 stylers, etc etc. that's what makes it fun, lol!
    2C/ Coarse/ Normal porosity/ SW Florida/ Salt & Pepper
Cleanse: AIA cowash, TJ Tea Tree Condish
Condish: JC Too Shea, Tresemme Botanique
Stylers: flax/okra gel or KCCC + CJ PP or JC Spiralicious
Experimenting with Got2B Ultra gel and loving it so far!

Also, don't be overwhelmed by the amount of products people list. Normally, a person will only use a few of those products in a given day! :)
