So, when i first used the SheaMoisture products I thought they were godly. But after 3 weeks, clearly, my hair doesn't approve. I just bought the Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and boy, did it make my hair dry and weighed down. I'm extremely dissapointed because everyone was raving about it. My hair has been brittle lately, and so dry and just breaking and shedding when I wash it and detangle it. I want to cry. I just did I protein treatment, and like a dumbass used the curl smoothie as a DT (I heard it was good that way) and ickkkkkk. So, I'm going to do a deep treatment to my hair tonight, but I really need new products, and protein free because I guess my hair hates protein.

The best way to choose ingredients/products is by hair properties. Here's a link to help you with yours Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics Once you determine your properties, look for others with hair like yours and see what they use (in signature.) It's the best place to start.

I use a lot of really rich products. The SM products are just too heavy, if you get the difference. I wouldn't go by them.

My hair is coarse, low porosity, and err idk about elasticity. The only thing that works good is the sheamoisture curl & style milk. My hair's been acting crazy lately. The only way i get no frizz is by raking products through and scrunching lightly. Plopping and diffusing cause frizz and don't really help my hair. My hair's just been splitting and breaking off, which didn't even happen when I straightened my hair.

Hair shouldn't be breaking off, especially now that you're treating it better. Unless, it's the damaged hair from straightening.

Have you tried to do treatments?? While your hair is coarse, if it's breaking you may need protein. Depending on what protein treatment you do, you'll need to do a deep treatment to add moisture.

The SM smoothie weighed down my hair and made it feel sort of producty. Even the Curl milk is a little heavy. I just use it as a leave-in when I wear it "straight."

Are you looking for drugstore or online products or a mix?

I did a protein treatment with an egg and some olive oil, then followed with a deep treatment but it didn't seem to help at all. Also, the past week i've been washing my hair almost every day, and I know that dries it out but my hair's been looking so awful that I can't help it. Oh and asianrunner, would prefer to buy the products in stores. I live in NYC so nothing should be too hard to come by.

I know how you feel, Jayxx. I've been trying to find new products that provide extra oomph for me but I haven't come across anything that I've fallen in absolute love with.

I've tried Curl Solutions Curl Keeper but it only seems to enhance my waves(or at least that's what I've noticed.) Maybe it has something to do with me using a diffuser everytime I've tried it? I'll try it in a plop today for once.

I have fine hair so my hair loves protein and so far that's been the only thing I've been elated about. I'm trying to find a nice gel...or maybe a curl creme...but my hair gets weighed down very easily. When I first started CG, I used the SM Smoothie and Souffle and was very happy with the results...until one day I didn't use them because the Frizz Forecast told me not to use products that contain Glycerin and such...and I noticed how different my hair felt without them! No more product feeling and my hair wasn't being weighed down so much! Ever since, I haven't touched them. I've also noticed my hair spiraling more! The SM Moisture Milk products are ok...I'm just not finding my 'wow' factor.

I'll keep looking and once I find something that I really love, I'll post it here.

Loving Kinky Curly Curling Custard and Spiral Spritz. No product build up and they really enhance curl. I scrunch KCCCustard into wet hair after shower. Sprial Spritz is a great refresher. Both products leave hair soft and touchable.
