Refreshing curls?!

Okay, so i wash my hair at night, and then apply my product which is strong hold gel. then, i sleep with it above the pillow as to not ruin my curls so much. when i wake up, my curls are pretty much in tact, soft, defined, they pretty much look the same as when i went to bed, just not wet. however, the problem is, when i go to sleep i kinda scrunch out the crunch a little when i roll around and such, so there's not as much hold in my hair as the day goes on...

back to my question...i use quite a lot of gel in order to maintain my hair style overnight, but i was just wondering, to refresh my curls in the morning could i for example, spritz it lightly with water, or maybe a mixture of condish and water, and then add a tiny bit of gel to my hair to put some extra hold back in, or would that cause disruption and frizz? also what would be the best way to reapply this small amount of gel if i was to do this? suggestions please!

ps my hair is low porosity, 2c/3a with loose waves underneath, and coarse (i think)

For some people refreshing curls with water and conditioner and adding more product works, for others it doesn't. The best way to find out is to try it. You can always experiment on weekends or days you are at home in case it doesn't work out. The only thing I would suggest is that if you use a lot of gel make sure you use a natural gel that is easily washed out and doesn't flake and cause too much residue.

I have the exact same routine as you, although I'm 2B. I wash at night, put product on my hair and sleep on it. And in the morning my wave is squashed :happy8:

So awhile ago I went to Sally's looking for a product recommended here and they were out, so the clerk recommended Hawaiian Silky Miracle Worker. Now I almost didn't buy it because the name of it is really hokey, and it claims to do 14 different things so I was like, "yeah right." But the price was good so I bought it.

And hot da@$ does it work for refreshing curls!! I spritz my hair damp in the morning and spray some of this on my hands and scrunch it through my hair. I was a little alarmed the first time I sprayed it because it comes out fairly creamy....and because I'm just a wavy, my hair becomes heavy very easily and then my waves begin to pout. But for some reason this stuff is very moisturizing without being greasy at all, perks up the waves and gives my hair amazing bounce and body, which I'm always struggling to achieve. It does have a light Hawaiian scent....coconut, pineapple thing going on. But it's very light and dissipates quickly. It's not perfumey or nauseating.

Anyway, that was a very long-winded answer, but this stuff has become my HG for wave refreshing, and it's not too pricey if you want to try it out.

actually last night i discovered by adding a bit too much gel at night and sleeping on it, really really works for me! when i woke up in the morning it was still crunchy so all i had to do was scrunch out the crunch, and there was no need for refreshing. i really recommend applying product overnight and sleeping with it above the pillow for anyone who has to get up early in the morning, and doesn't fancy walking around with wet hair for a couple of hours! (well if works for you of course). i think i have FINALLY found a routine that works really well for me and leaves me with shiny curls which barely needs to be touched in the morning!

I also shower at night. I use a fair amount of FSG and pineapple before going to bed. I flop around too much to just fan it out over the pillow. Pineappling and a satin pillowcase work really well for me. In the morning, I take down the pineapple and spritz with either just water or water mixed with AVG. Scrunch a few times and I'm good to go.

I love to shower at night for this reason. My hair can air dry naturally in my downtime then I go to bed and wake up in the morning and just fix it and I'm on my way. Doesn't always work out that way though. Many a time I have to shower in the morning or afternoon. Guh. So the way I refresh is usually in the morning with the crunch fully scrunched or tousled out from sleeping I can tell which areas of my hair are drier and in need. First I slightly dampen hair all over. Used to use a spray bottle but lately I've gotten lazy and am filling my palms with water from the faucet and glazing over my hair. Then I use a little leave in conditioner a drop here and there for the dry areas and a little bit more overall. My hair absorbs everything because it is porous so I don't worry about it being too much. Also I'm moderate in my application. Then I take some refreshing product like a gelly or a gel and smooth over hair and scrunch up. Reactivates the curl and holds 'em for another day.

Could you maybe try some spray gel to add the hold without having to add water and do a lot of scrunching? Sounds like the curls stay pretty well intact and just need more hold, so perhaps that would help?
