My hair is half straight, half curly, HELP!

This is my first time using Naturally Curly so please don't judge,
My hair when I was younger use to be curly all over, but since puberty, my hair has gone half curly, at the bottom, and straight at the top!

I was wondering if there is any way of preventing this, and maybe a way to get my curls everywhere! I never wear my hair out, its always up 24/7!!!

Anything will be good, love you all! xox :thumbright:

Welcome to naturally curly! You've just stepped into a world of curly hair obsession. Fun stuff. :)

I don't think your hair is half straight and half wavy. The top of your hair is wavy, it just isn't very defined. I can say, off the bat, that your hair looks kind of dry. Are you brushing you hair, because your hair looks sort of brushed out? What products are you using? Are you using conditioner and stylers? Exactly how are you applying them? How do you dry your hair? Your hair looks wavy, and often wavy hair can get easily pulled down. So, the top of your hair is probably just being weighed down by your bottom hair. Also, your hair doesn't look like it has any layers, which would help bring out the curls. Another thing you tell us to help with advice is what your hair properties are, but I know it can be confusing to figure out. Here's a link to better understand curly hair:

Your hair look really dry. What is your hair routine? Wash, styling and frequency.

Your hair looks kind of like mine before I found this website: dry and damaged. Have you started this method yet? Read the stickys at the top of the newbie and general discussion sections to get started; you will be amazed at the difference in your hair once you learn to treat it properly! Good luck!

It can be overwhelming. Don't forget to do a final shampoo with a sulfate shampoo before you start to get any residue off- don't use any shampoo with cones though for this step. Most baby shampoos are good and you can buy a travel size bottle at target for 99 cents.

For your hair type, I would suggest purchasing 3 things to get started: a good conditioner with no cones, a sulfate free shampoo with no cones, and a gel. A lot of waives need to shampoo a couple times a week instead of washing only with conditioner all the time like a lot of curlies on this site do. The key to turning your hair around will be to get a good trim, and condition the heck out of it!!!!!

Cleanse: AIA cowash, TJ Tea Tree Condish
Condish: JC Too Shea, Tresemme Botanique
Stylers: flax/okra gel or KCCC + CJ PP or JC Spiralicious
Experimenting with Got2B Ultra gel and loving it so far!

Welcome!!! Everyone has great advice for you. Just wanted to chime in a bit, cuz when I first started I thought I would have to be spending lots on specialized curly products. But that's not the case at all! V05 and Suave Naturals line have great -cone free conditioners. LA Looks has a great gel (blue one) that has great hold. As you get to know your hairs properties then you can dive into more specialized products. But beware you can become a Product Junkie! 😊

    Again, welcome!
    :hello2:my curly blog

2 months into this... Still experimenting...
Sporadic shampoo (usually 1 to 2 times a week): Kinky Curly Come Clean
Co-wash or Rinse Out (in rotation): Suave clean breeze, V05 Strawberries & Cream, Tresseme naturals
Leave in: CHS Curl Keeper, or Coconut oil
Style: LA Looks Gel (the blue one), GF curl shaping spray gel

Well i've been told by my hairdresser to do it all natural, shampoo, condition twice in the shower, towel dry my hair just a little, then leave it, go to bed with wet hair then I'd repeat this every 3 days, he said that this is best for your hair but now I've just realised, like you said, my hair is really dry, I just want my curls to be all over, and for my hair to not be dry anymore! :compress:

Going to sleep with wet hair can make your hair dry really messy and uneven. I would let it airdry on it's own before going to sleep. Also, natural shampoos can still be super drying, depending on what your using. They aren't all the same. You should leave conditioner in you hair for at least 5 minutes, don't rinse it out right away. I have no clue why you would need to condition twice. I agree with the stickies are helpful.

My hair was totally different before I started CG. My hair would curly and wave but it would be crazy frizzy with no definition! CG has helped amazingly! Keep at it and follow the routine. It seems tough, but you get used to it and figure out that it's really not hard at all! Also(I know I sound like a broken record but it is useful info) follow the Frizz Forecast. It's under the "Care" tab. It really helps!!!

Here's a photo from when I first started CG, and one from yesterday.

Your hair will get curlier with time, and with certain products. :) Goodluck!
