Help finding similar lipstick color...

SCGSCG Posts: 5,416Registered Users
I got my makeup done for my brother's wedding in November, and because we had it done about 3 hours before the wedding, the makeup lady gave me a little sample of lipstick to use throughout the day. It just so happens that it was Avon, because her sister is a consultant, or something.

Anyhow, I found it again in my makeup drawer the other day, and remembered how much I like the color! However, it looks like Avon doesn't sell it anymore.

I think it looks nice on me (picture attached... Feel free to let me know if it actually looks horrific! ;)) and I'd like to get something similar, but I don't really know where to start!

This blog reviews it (Radiant Peony), if it would help to see it in a few different forms!

(Sorry for the super awkward/up the nose angle of the picture! I'm terrible at taking selfies, apparently. Also, that's not a booger in my nose... Just my nose ring!)

Wow, that color looks really pretty on you! I don't have any suggestions for replacement lipsticks (I don't ever wear them so I have no idea), but have you thought about asking an Avon rep if they can recommend something?
    2c/3a, botticelli/wavy/'swavy (huh?)
fine, dense, normal porosity/elasticity, dry climate
My favorite brands are Kinky Curly, As I am, Curly Kinks, Curl Junkie, and Darcy's Botanicals. Also love sealing with oils (loving argan oil right now) and styling with jelly products (KCCC is my current favorite). Mostly trying to keep it simple!

the info i can find on that lipstick is that it's very sheer, so if you were going to buy a MAC shade, you want a lustre finish - and Plink is probably the closest you can get to that colour.

for drugstore shades: Rimmel Pink Blush and Wet 'N Wild Pinkerbell might be close.

if you've got the lippie, though, i'd just take it to the store and start swatching - but i'm bad like that!

Would it be weird to bust into Sephora and ask one of the consultants there if they've got something similar? For some reason it didn't hit me until now!

Okay so that MAC Venus looks like one of the closer ones so far!

I'm hopeful! They do look like very nice lipsticks!

not at all, that's what they're there for!

    :D

but that MAC Venus shade was limited edition and is no longer available. that's why i suggested Plink - it's regular collection and sheer like that Avon lippie.

It figures! Well, I'll definitely see if I can check out Plink in person. I feel like I'm not getting a good feel for these colors online. I believe my Macy's has a counter. Otherwise, I might have to take a road trip to a nicer mall nearby. What a darn shame that would be... ;)

I'm sorry, I don't think it's a flattering shade for you. Maybe it's the pic though.

It could be the pic, or it could actually look bad! What about it makes it unflattering? Despite taking art classes and stuff for years, I'm still really bad at picking up on undertones in colors that might not mix well with my coloring! I feel like everyone can see them but me!

It seems too light and too bright for you. It also looks on the warmer side, but you appear cooler toned in the pic. Is it like a peachy pink? Something closer to lilac would be pretty on you: http://theeverydaybeauty.blogspot.com/2011/06/clinique-long-last-lipstick-in-silvery.html?m=1

Or something like what Kim K used to wear, a sheer natural pink.

It plays off/up the hint of green in her eyes beautifully. I think that's why it seems complimentary, but the shade itself with her immediate skin tone is slightly jarring. Slightly. I can see that.

To me it's fine if you have a look going on that is fun (without being too crazy) but definitely pulled together at the same time. That way it will seem intentional.

My guess is that she is overall warmer toned than the pic suggests though, so my 'slightly jarring' take could be off too.

SCG, you should rock pinkish highlighting around your eyes if you don't already.

Aha! I think you make some good points, sew and sew. I hadn't considered that about it going well with my eyes. Perhaps that's what is throwing me off! And I do try to wear pinks around my eyes but sometimes they do indeed end up looking jarring.

People have told me that I'm a cool skin tone, but then at the same time I feel like SOME colors for warm skin tones also look good. I'm not saying I'm necessarily "neutral" either. I feel like I'm in some weird gray area sometimes!

Maybe I'll try to get a better pic at some point. Maybe even in... Natural light. *shudder*

I can completely relate. I do think gold jewelery looks a little better on me than silver though, so I reckon I lean warm. But sometimes...I still see a lot of tones in me that contradict that. My rose blush seems a little more flattering than my peach. I feel like brown eyeliner does more for me than grey though. Mixed signals for sure.
