Any Simple, Easy Methods for 3A Styling?

I honestly do not like my curly hair. I know people love it, like people with straight hair, but I honestly only care about simplicity. Curly hair is not simple, straight hair is. My friend simply washes her hair with shampoo and conditioner, and leaves the house. I have to do all of this stuff, like using leave-ins, gels, mousse, special shampoo and conditioner, etc. and my hair still looks stupid. and poofy. and frizzy.

I've tried multiple methods, like cowashing, and now I'm pretty much at the end of the line. Can anybody tell me of a shampoo or conditioner that can be used, and just used, for curly hair? Or REALLY EASY simple steps (one product and thats it) to make my curly hair nice? B/c that's all I Care about. Easy to manage hair, If I had straight hair I honestly wouldn't care.

I think you should embrace your curls. Believe me. I used HATE my curly hair. But dont use gels. Use hair creams like kinky curly or garnier fructis 98% hair cream and herbal essence hydralicious conditioner OMG AMAZING! !! And yes, you can straighten youf hair once in a while. But dont since i have 3b curls :)

So do you put the hair cream gel and the conditioner on the hair?
  • curlycat212curlycat212 Posts: 9Registered Users
Ni. Conditioner for washing, no gels. Use hair cream or butters. You can put your head upside down then brush and apply cream brush sides. Twist your hair, put it in abun the bun thing is optional but if yu do the bun thing leave it for ten minutes, takeit out and part your hair any way u want!

You can diffuse as well but do nlt touch your hair or else it will just frizz up.

Have you tried simply co washing and not rinsing out completely to leave some conditioner in your hair like described in the cf handbook, it may be enough to calm your hair enough to wear out of the door.

Try going back to this simple routine and if its not enough add one thing at a time.

A lot of people don't seem to do anything more than scrunch in a gel after they shower, which seems as uncomplicated as it gets to me. Very few people are like your friend who has to do nothing.

Since you're looking for a simple method with product recs, here's the one that works best for me but mind you the product I use (i only use this once in a while) is not CG; I think there is a cone in there.

Shampoo - CHS treatment shampoo - my absolute favorite; makes my hair unbelievably soft!
    Conditioner - GVP Conditioning balm
Leave in - CJ Beauticurls leave in
    Product - AB beach bomb

I have 3a curls but get really pretty waves with this method. Just rake the product in and slightly scrunch. I let my hair air dry. Good luck!

sKorpio1190 and I have similar hair, and obviously similar philosophies... low maintenance! My sig might look like a lot, but most of it is done once a week or so. I have a "hair night" every 7-10 days where most fancy stuff happens.

My routine is co-wash, conditioner, KCCC in the shower, wrap it up (a loose flour sack turban works for me) while I get dressed, let it down, and scrunch in gel. It takes no longer than when I used to try to wear my hair straight or less curly. I let my hair air dry either way, using a low heat diffuser if the weather outside is cold and I want my roots dry before I leave the house. Sometimes I use a single clip to position my bangs area while my hair air drys. And I definitely wasted time using a flat iron to even things out when I was trying to "go straight."

I think, with experimenting, you can find the minimalist routine that works for you. Plus, those things I do once a week make my minimal daily routine go a lot better. Investing time in overnight coconut oil and a protein treatment once a week means better hair days, and less styling, every day in between - for me, at least.

    I generally use 2-3 products.

    1. No-poo shampoo (Deva or Curl Junkie brand). I only use this once a week or so.
    2. Conditioner (Deva or Curl Junkie brand).
    3. Gel (Deva Arc Angel or one of the Curl Junkie brand, I don't know which one).

I do it all in the shower. Then wrap my hair in a towel. Then let it air-dry or diffuse if I don't want we hair for half the day.

    That's it.

Maybe you're hair isn't getting something that it needs. I'm not very good with all the details but I'm sure someone who reads this will. How porous is your hair? Maybe you need a good leave-in.

Personally, I co-wash daily with Suave Naturals. Rinse out with DevaCurl One Condition. Rinse the One Condition out with cold water. Squeeze out excess water. Re-apply more conditioner. Scrunch some DevaCurl Ultra Defining Gel into my hair. Then scrunch for a minute with a t-shirt. The gel gives my hair a slight "cast" but I just shake it out and I have NO frizz and my hair is perfectly soft. A lot of people on here have bad things to say about DevaCurl but I find the conditioner and gel work well together. Their products are expensive though and I have yet to find cheaper alternatives...

You should find out your hair properties though and I'm sure someone would be able to help you!

It takes time to learn how to deal with your hair but after that you will enjoy you it a lot. I have a huge head full of curls but believe it or not I find it so simple to deal with it. It doesn't bother me at all anymore, it's difficult for me to imagine myself without my curls now no matter how frizzy they are. It's just a matter of time and learning to like your hear and what it does, just like a child no matter how tiring or different he or she is you will always love your child.

I'm the same way. I hate over complicating my hair. Daily, I condition my hair with nature's gate biotin condish. Once a week wash with Deva nopoo. Get out of shower, scrunch with john Freida frizz ease curl mousse. (I promise, no cones!! And it's the softest mousse to exist), put my hair Ina bun, go bed, wake up, let my hair down, and go :)

yes i have found such a simple method which seems to be working at the moment, and yes it only includes one styling product. however, i know some people may be thinking, this curly needs a leave in to moisturise, however my hair is healthy and shiny as i use a lot of condish (tresseme naturals) and i deep condish regularly.

so what i do is jump in the shower, around evening time, about 8 o clock. i apply a load of condish, let in soak in for about 20 mins. i also comb through my hair with a wide tooth comb while in the shower. i then jump out the shower with my hair dripping wet,and then gently blot it with a cotton tshirt. i then generously apply a lot of strong hold gel, and thats it, done. i then leave it to air dry. overnight, i fan it above my satin pillowcase, and when i wake up in the morning i have voila, soft, shiny, defined curls that are ready to go.

however, this is just how i do my hair, it may not work for others, it may need modifying for others, and it may be a complete disaster for others too, but its worth a try.
