Does healthy hair feel as nice as silicone hair?

My hair on silicones is soft, sleek and shiny without being greasy. Is it possible for hair to feel like this without cones?

So far on non-cone products my hair kinda feels thick, where I am used to the thin sleekness. I am only 2 days in so may be panicking too soon :-(
2c/3a thick hair, attempting CG again!

Honestly, it might just depend on your hair type and what you're using as a LI. I never had the nice 'silicone look' so for me (cg 1 yrish) my hair has never looked better. It's soft, shiny and bouncer than I ever got with silicones. I've attributed it to the fact that its more moisturized and healthier than it ever was. Sooo to answer your question I think it just depends. I'm sure your hair will be different since you're using different products. I think this is where a lot of experimenting comes in.

I'm having a problem with cones now that I'm transitioning out of my perm. Neither texture likes cones. The reason I'm going to try the cg method. I hope my hair doesn't become a grease ball. But I'm willing to try. I think my grandmothers hair will respond well too.

Definitely! In fact, now that I no longer use them regularly, silicones make my hair feel greasy in comparison.
    3a - Fine, thin, non-porous hair - boo! :(

The first time I used a silicone on my hair, it was stunning. Shiny, gorgeous, frizz-free.

Never happened again. After that it was just grease, limp hair, etc.

My hair looks as good, or better, than that first silicone day every day with regular protein treatments and CG friendly products. And it feels tons better to the touch.

    Your results may vary!

So far my hair feels so very soft. Still trying to achieve the shiny look. But still experimenting.

how are you feeling about it now prettypolly? I just started trying out the CG method yesterday.
    Just starting CG (04/18/13)
2C/3A hair, medium texture, normal porosity (I think!)
Trying out: Suave Naturals wild strawberry (co-wash) Garnier Fructis Pure and Clean fortifying conditioner, Redken crystal curls 6, Live Clean Argan Oil Treatment, Pantene curl shaping gel
Thinking of trying: Live Clean Argan oil conditioner or Live Clean Bali Oil conditioner....who recommends them?

Update: my grandmothers hair feels even softer now that we are silicone free. Her hair is pretty soft already but going silicone free is really helping her hair retain moisture. Mine, on the other hand, may take awhile since I will be newly natural soon & I hear you hair is really thirsty after you big chop.

When I first put silicones on it feels sleek and shiny. By the end of the day it feels dry and crispy on the ends.

Silicon is not good for hairs. They create a short term illusion that the quality of our hair has improved. However, when used over time, silicone-based hair products coat the hair shaft and seal out moisture, possibly clogging the hair follicles.

I think that hair which is in good condition, not particularly damaged, feels as good or better without cones. Really damaged hair can feel better with a coney 'mask', but it varies for different people, and the nice feel of cones on damaged hair can wear off.
    UK based wavy :hello2:

Mostly waves, but curls and straight bits too!
Fine to medium, high porosity, medium density, very low elasticity
Highlights damage (growing it out), seems to like protein and need lots of moisture.

Cleanse - CJDF, trying out low poos ; Co wash- Uk chemist brands, Urtekram Rose or Aloe, Hairveda Amala Cream Rinse; RO - varies, Tigi Moisture Maniac, Desert Essence Coconut ; Leave in - Keracare natural textures; Sealant - argan oil
Trying out new things, still looking.
