Lumpy protein treatment (Gelatin)

Hey so I tried the Gelatin PT and had some issues. I tried the microwave version and used the packet of Knoxx powder. Well as soon as I would put the powder in the water, it instantly clumped up. Despite stirring and stirring I had to eventually fish the lumps out and it never became gelatinous. I still poured it on my hair and left it in per the directions just in case this was how the treatment usually is. My hair seems the same now that its dry.
Any suggestions? I had never tried a PT before.
I am a newbie. I think I am a 2b. I have been blowdrying and straightening my hair for the last 15 years. Trying to embrace the REAL ME.

Did you add the gelatin to cool/cold water before putting it in the mic? It should be clump free if the gelatin is dissolved in the cool water first. If you did and its still clumped, maybe someone else can weigh in :D

I use this one too, and I'm still pretty new to it as well :)

I dissolve the gelatin in some water first...about 2 times the amount of gelatin powder. Then, add the dissolved gelatin to the water you will be using for the treatment after it's already boiling. This way it finishes dissolving immediately. Then whisk away!

I've done both - dissolved it in cool water then microwaved it, and dissolved it in cool water (not much - sort of made a paste) then added hot microwaved water to that.

I also add a little coconut oil, ACV, sometimes AVG, and a pinch of Epsom. (All are supposed to help your hair absorb and retain the protein.)

Because I add those things, I like my gelatin mixture good and hot! ;) That way the additives cool it down a little, but not TOO much! And then it's ready to put in my hair after I co-wash or shampoo and detangle.

Hmmm, I added it to the hot water. I will try cold water next time. Thanks!

I have always just done it stovetop, and added the packet to boiling water. It mixes in pretty easily and stays hot for a while.

On another note... how do you all apply this stuff to your hair? I feel like I get it everywhere, make a mess and waste half the stuff!

I pour the mixture into a travel sized shampoo bottle and it made it much easier to put on! It also allows you to shake it up.

The microwave version is perfect for me. It's so easy to wash a mug and a spoon :D

Flippacious, just pour it into something smaller with a spout, like a plastic liquid measuring pitcher, maybe?

I hold my hair in a low pony, then literally dip my ends into it. Then I just pour the rest on my head!
