A woman said I was a hot spook

SpringcurlSpringcurl Posts: 8,002Registered Users
has anyone heard that expression before?

I know the negative definition of a spook, but I don't think she meant it like that. She was admiring my sparkly sneakers and after we chatted about it for a she said, "You're such a hot spook!"

I googled it and very little comes up. Someone else comments that they've been called a hot spook but it's just a one liner comment and don't expand it.

Anyone know if it's a British term? An archaic term? Anything at all?

Never heard that expression before. I do know about the derogatory meaning of spook of course, but "hot spook?"

She probably just made it up. People have their little "terms". I say words that don't make any sense to anyone outside of my family or circle of friends. Like I have a bad habit of saying "Livin like Larry" when Im being silly or saying that I want to live or have a high priced or luxurious item/life style. A lot of people at first look at me like "0_o" but the people I'm friends with get it....Im a Spongebob fan.

Does she have a strong northern accent? Maybe she was trying to say you're a hot 'spark' but didn't pronounce the full 'r' sound??

    Was she older.
She must not get out much if it's 2013 and she's using that term.

i was also thinking it was something made up. i have thelioisms (did i spell that right?) a friend wanted to make a video call "ish the thelio say". maybe she felt so comfy around you, she let one of her isms spill out not realizing you wont get it or she even did it.

or she was a racist trying to compliment you the way only a racist can.

    I can't stop laughing.

Yea some people make up words, or use words in their own way. (example: Me. See SIDY for the use of the word cryptic)

Well, I know spook is a term they used in the 50's. Maybe even earlier. Yes its a derogatory, racist term.

Sounds to me like someone somewhere is trying to use a derogatory word and putting a spin on it to make it mainstream slang.

Like the -er to -a ending on the 'n' word. To me its the same thing.

I know that term, but I really didn't feel like she meant it that way.

At any rate, after WAY too much research last night when I should have been sleeping, I found it in this book:

Did you think of asking her what she meant? Because I wouldn't have been able to let that one go.

You're so much fun, spring, that I sincerely hope she meant "lively."

She said it as she was leaving and I turned to my friend, stunned, and said, "Did she just call me a hot spook??"

  • irociroc Posts: 7,890Registered Users
Maybe she meant 'spark' or some other word and it came out wrong.

Once I went to say to my daughter 'aww, baby' and it came out 'aww, booby'.

Which was embarrassing bc I was at the orthopedic when she broke her leg and all the doctors were young good looking guys.
