I big chopped on this Monday! Yay Me!!! The whole Type thing confuses me because the "stars" in the 3 and 4 section, a few look chemically treated or wigged (not that there's anything wrong with that but it is confusing).

I'd like to know for curiosity sake, (being honest) and the beautician who cut it told me that she prefers the use of creams as opposed to gels. I'm at a loss with all of the cream availability for my "type" of hair, whatever my type is! :toothy5:

Thank you for your sincere help! And I am loving the getting up and going!!! I should have done this years ago. I joined this site in 2009, but I kept returning to the relaxer (2x per year) but suddenly, at age 51, I caved and I LOVE IT!!! :angel12:photo(5).jpg

    Congratulations on big chopping!!!
All I can say about hair typing and all of that jazz is everything looks different to different people and everyone is unique.. so your hair might not fit the exact criteria for the 3 or 4 hair type, it's more of a guide line thing, some use to help with techniques and products they feel will work due to similar hair types.
As far as your type, I would wait until it grows a bit so you can see how it coils and curls; when shorter hair might appear curlier or looser till it grows some.
For now, I would say continue to do what you find works best for your hair and the only way to know if something works or not for you specifically is to try it out=)
Good luck on your journey, patience will help you enjoy it even more and lastly ROCK THAT TWA (if you feel comfortable enough to do so) =)

Thank you! My plan is to stay TWA for a long while. I figured I had enough hair that if I really wanted twists and all of that other stuff, I could have continued to let the relaxer grow out, and just have it trimmed until there was no more relaxer, and I could live the life of a natural with hair. lol

Typically, I relaxed twice a year, more for manageability than anything else. When I made the decision to just go for it, I was 7.5 months post relaxer. It was not a hard decision for me this time, as I have toyed with the idea of big chopping and always scurried back over to "I'm a long term transitioner."

I think this decision was the right decision for me. My next fear to conquer is to let the gray come on out and befriend it. It comes out, literally 2 weeks after I color it, but I have yet to really embrace it. Maybe I will...

Anyway, any tips for a person who wishes to remain in the TWA stage for a while regarding creams, and hair type is most appreciated. Peace!
