Desperate for some advice...

Hi,
I'm really confused and frustrated about my hair at the moment...!
I started CG Feb. last year - before that I shampooed and conditioned and used conditioner as styling too (short hair photo below). Now I'm co-washing and using deep treatment 2-3 times a week and style with gel. My hair tends to dry fast - seems like it's getting dry while styling with gel...
My hair get's less voluminous and curls differently (long hair photo below). I'm not sure if it's because it's longer now or if it's the styling-thing... I've tried to style with conditioner but it seems like I can't quite remember how I did it before CG, because my hair get sticky and weird...

What to do...??? Can anyone give my some advise on how to get more volume and make it look more like it used to (pictures with short hair)...?

Thank you so much! :)

PS. I'm from Denmark and we don't have as many curly products as you do in US and coconut oil is very expensive...
/Puf :)

first let me say I love your hair long! Do you know what your hair properties are? I think knowing that would help to figure out what's up. It sounds like it might be overconditioned if you use 3 DTs a week, or have buildup of some kind. Did you do a last sulfate wash without silicones, and not use any after? Or was it like this with your hair long even before CG? If it was it could just be weighed down; when my hair is longer I lose a lot of volume on top. I hope this helps some!

Thank you :) I like it long too - just miss the volume...

I'm not sure what mu hair properties are? When can I read about it or find out?

I stopped shampooing and then I co-washed from then on. I didn't do a last sulfate wash without silicones - just co-washed since then. I haven't had my hair this long before - well when I was 13 I think, but I wasn't taking care of my curls back then.

I'll do a DT once a week from now on and see if it helps to just co-wash - thanks :)

Maybe I should cut some layers on top all the way round too. So the 'outer' layer isn't that long an heavy...?

Here's where you can read about texture and porosity:

Her whole site is full of great info on curly hair! If you didn't do a last sulfate wash, you probably have some kind of silicone buildup in your hair. This could be making it lose volume, because Cowashing can't get rid of silicones. the cones just coat your hair, making it weird and trapping moisture out (why your hair seems dry!!). It's important to do a last sulfate wash without any silicones in it, and then not use any products with cones after without clarifying. So before you change anything else, I'd try washing with a cone free sulfate shampoo and seeing if that makes a difference! :)

    Great - thanks! :)

Ok - so there can still be built up even 13 months after I stopped using shampoo? I'll see if I can find a silicone free shampoo and hope it works :)

13 months? Wow. As far as I know cowashing can't take out silicones no matter how long its been, so I guess they would still be there. Or if your conditioner or gel has cones it could just be getting worse.

Silicones do not stay on the hair permanently until you use a sulfate shampoo. Over time they will wear off of the hair on their own- typically within the 4-6 week range. So if you haven't used any silicone products in 13 months, you would not still have build up from that long ago.

Thanks Corinna for correcting me:) I don't want to give any wrong advice! Still I would try a shampoo wash and see if it perks up your curls. It would give you a starting point, at least.

    Thanks for your replies :)

I've read the Curly Hair Basics and I have medium texture and normal porosity.

I've decided to not do a DT for 7-10 days and see if it help to just co-wash and style with gel as I have done since CG :) If not - I'll buy a silicone free shampoo and see if that'll do the trick ;)

    Happy Easter!

    HI :)
How do you use the oil? I have almond oil and argan oil which I apply to my dry hair over night (only a few drops). And how do you style your hair?
What website do you use?? Would be great to order something online - especially if it from Denmark (cheaper shipping ;) ) :D
