Considering a big chop (3A/3B)

My hair's the longest it's been in a while, a little past my shoulders. Finally long enough that I can put it in a big messy bun way up high on my head.

Long hair Pros:
  • Can tie it up in a fun messy bun, whereas when it's short you can't just get it away easy.
  • Easy to get out of the way to work out; if it's short I'll probably have to wear a baseball hat when running.
  • Almost long enough to do a low side bun/pony that I've been wanting to do, especially with a cute hat...don't have that option with short hair.
  • When I wear a hat, it's long enough that my hair is very visible under and is cute. But short hair can look cute with some hats, too. Hmmm.
  • People praise long hair. And I like that. But what's the point if I'm never wearing it down?!
Long hair cons:
  • I'm too lazy to wash it too frequently, so after a few days it's too frizzy to wear down, and my scalp starts to get itchy. Short hair I can wash almost every day, and it will be dry in an hour or so probably.
  • I feel trapped by my hair-washing schedule, particularly because it takes forever to dry, and looks terrible until it's completely dry.
  • Sometimes I don't want to workout because my hair is clean, but if it's short and I can wash it more often, then it won't be an issue.
  • I wear it up most of the time at work, and I don't like that. Short hair I can wear down all the time...but then I don't have the option of putting it up!

OK, so now that I've just babbled on, what do you think? I attached some cuts I like to give you an idea. I've been short before, but never QUITE this short!

I think it really comes down to the ease of being able to put it up in a bun vs. the hassle of having to wash it.

sounds like you're tempted to make a change but not sure
up to you...the short hair pics you posted are cute
If you cut it, and then want to grow it back it takes a long time but maybe you'll like it short

i just cut my hair really short and im begging it to put it back up. if you chop make sure you dont cut too short or else you wont have the option of putting it up. I hate how i cant put my hair up when im sleeping, it gets in my ears. I hate washing it every single day. Windy days it messes up my short hair and then im stuck with it. my short hair doesnt look right untill its dry. there's barley any options for short hair. however when you do a big chop, shorter hair grows faster and i have to say wash and gos are pretty easy. but im very bored with my short hair. short curly hair can sometimes look "too cute." or childish looking. however I do love the very first pic of the cut you like. My hair actually looks like the second one. Im not liking it on me ;/ I guess if i go short again, im gonna go really short like the first one. think over it before you chop. I regretted mine and it wont be a year or a few months till i can put it up in a bun ;/

The email that came today featured this article Can You Pull Off Short Type 3 Hair? I thought some of the styles were great.

I've worn my hair in an inverted bob the last five years. It's the first time in my 30+ years of wearing it curly that I've felt that I have a style. It's so easy to style, that I don't even try to get second day hair!

Of course, as others have pointed out, if it's too short--you won't have other options. I for one don't care.

i've kept my hair between shoulder and chin length for several years. if i have a not good hair day, i'll use a headband - either stretchy which gives it an 'up' look, or a plastic headband. either way, i usually get compliments, same as when i where it down. you don't need a baseball cap to keep your hair out of your face.

^ This is EXACTLY how I feel! My hair is my security blanket so I can't wait for the day that I have enough guts to cut some of it off.

I'd say just go for it but don't go too short. Spring is a great time for a change like that. Kind of like "Spring Cleaning"

    Good luck!

I will say, as someone with short curly hair, short curly updos are possible and actually very easy/quick.

Most people with straight hair need longer hair for updos because they need the volume...we don't. You can hide the length of your actual hair with strategucally placed bobby pins. You just have to find the method that's right for you.

I have no clue how long her hair is here, but something like this is pretty easy to achieve with short naturally curly hair.

Or if your hair is shorter in the front...

And I know this was the style Hayden was rocking when her hair was short...except you can skip all the time it took for her to curl her hair in the first place.

I have an inverted bob, and I really like it. When my hair is longer is seems stringy looking. So with it shorter, it appears fuller, curlier and has more of a style.

I've just done if chop due to stringy limp curls (and I had no clue what I was doing with long hair!).

I've had it cut to just below my chin so I can tie it back if needed. It feels so much healthier, easy to curl (I don't even need gel), really soft and no tangles. Its also nowhere near as dry. However! - I am still getting used to the look, I think it's just so different.

Also, I don't know about other people's hair but mine goes into shock after its cut and can take a week or 2 to settle down...

    Good luck!
