Seeking oil-free foundation recs

LoloDSMLoloDSM Posts: 3,778Registered Users
I've used Meow Mineral Makeup for almost five years, and it just doesn't last through the day. I am probably going back to a cream-to-powder foundation, but I need something oil-free.

In the past, I've used Bobbi Brown which is great, but pricey, and they made the size of it smaller. I actually like May Kay's as well and it is very affordable, but I loathe MK as a company and don't want to support it. I found some professional theater makeup by Mehron that is very affordable, but my local theatrical shop doesn't keep it in stick so I will have to guess or buy multiple shades.

Before I take the plunge, what oil-free foundations do you love and why?

    Why do you hate MK?

I like Becca and Kevyn Aucoin, but they're pricey too. They're 2 of the very few brands to match my olive (and oily) skin.

If the theatre makeup thing works for you, also try Ben Nye, RCMA, Graftobian and Kryolan. Some pro beauty supply places will sell you samples, e.g., Camera Ready Cosmetics and Alcone.

Edit: Damn, sorry... Becca and KA aren't oil free. I'm not sure about the others.

I think MK is pushy and obnoxious to customers, and I don't like the way it treats its sales people (buy inventory! Oh, we changed the packaging again!).

    1. CRC sells samples and also provides a foundation matching service.

    2. If you go with the theater makeup, I recommend RCMA as it is very pigmented and absent of many common irritants. Some of the other brands have lanolin and mineral oil in them, and you said you want oil free.

    3. Many Sephora stores have started to carry CoverFX foundations and the have a new oil free option, but it's pricy too.

I'm sorry I have no recs, because I am a foundation junkie and I don't LOVE any one. I use MAC Face and Body on the regular. I will say that's one I keep going back to. That's it.

All I can say is how very, very much I miss Prescriptives. It's been two or three years and I have yet to find anything that even comes close. Right now my current "favorite" is a newer one from Clinique. Tarte is also working well for me.

Prescriptives is back online, with many of their original products. I loved their powder with sunscreen for touchups and was so sad to see it leave stores. I just have to plan my purchases because I don't like paying for shipping.

You seriously just made not just my day, but probably at least my whole month.

I recently switched from Meow and mineral makeup as a whole for the same reason, it just doesn't last all day. I still use it on the weekends or when I'm just running out the house and need something to last for a few hours, but my daily foundation for work is L'Oreal true match foundation (the liquid and powder) which are oil free. I've also had good success with the new covergirl 3n1 foundation.

For mid-range foundation I like MAC Matchmaster, Makeup Forever HD, and MUFE Pro Finish Powder Foundation.

For highend, I like Kevin Alcon, Lancome, Dior, and YSL.

I've heard good things about the face and body. What color are you in it? You're an NC 50 right? Matchmaster 7.5-8.0?

Hi there, I guess you could say I'm some what biased based on my reccomendation because I sell the product but believe me, previously I tried it all, MAC, Revlon Bobbi Brown, etc etc. I use Artistry Worn wet or dry, ARTISTRY® Ideal Dual Powder Foundation glides on evenly, adjusting to match your skin tone, leaving a weightless, airbrushed finish so silky smooth it looks flawless.

Supremely protects skin with antioxidants like vitamin E and grape seed extract. And the exclusive Veil of Protection helps prevent visible signs of premature aging, neutralizing free radicals before they reach the skin’s surface. Ideal for all skin types and available in 17 shades.

best of all, they have a 180 day money back guarantee, cant beat that, even if product was empty they would refund you. Feel free to PM me if you are interested in ordering or have questions. I can direct you to my website.

The Bobbi Brown was a big failure. Although it's oil-free, I had clogged pores a week and a half after using it.

I'm looking at Cover FX and will check it out at Sephora this weekend. I'm still open to suggestions though!

Redlipstick, thank you, thank you for the Cover FX recommendation! I bought it at Sephora and my skin looks flawless. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't make me break out, because I love the way it looks!

My HG foundation so far has been Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour foundation.

This stuff has serious staying power. Like, I squeeze it out onto the back of hand when applying and afterwards I really have to scrub my hand to get it off...

That being said, makeup remover takes it off easily. It has not broken me out and I'm on the drier side for my skin - I could see this working very well for oilier skin as well.

It's on the pricier side (around $45 I believe, at Sephora) but the tube is HUGE (1.7 fl.oz) and lasts a good while since you don't need a lot for each application. This stuff also has amazing coverage, which for me is a must to cover acne scarring.

I love Tarte stuff now and have repurchased this foundation and other related items.

I've used the Cover FX cream foundation but did not love it - a bit cakey for me.
