    Hi curlies.
I am so interested in this challenge but I have few questions.
Why do we have to put our hair up in ponytails or buns? Does it help grow hair faster? I mean cant we just leave it down?
Also I have noticed my hair end tend to feel rough and super dry after a day with hair in a bun, what can be the reason of this? :(
Also I would love to see your progresses. Kissies

I don't have any protective style pics, but I have actually styled it the last 2 days. I did it curly yesterday and today I caved & straightened it. Ill post pics of both. Next time I put it up ill post those pics too. Here's where I'm kinda starting from. Ill post another length check pic in a month. Pardon me eating my bangs in the curly pic, I'd pulled them aside to fix them lol

Hi, I was wondering if it is too late to join this challenge? I've been warpath chopping my hair randomly for years and right now it's almost APL when stretched. I recently learned how to do senegalese twists thanks to youtube. I will take a picture of my hair on Friday (wash day) and post it and post another pic of my hair either twisted/braided which is my new go to protective style on Saturday or Sunday.

I want to join :) I'm only 1c/2a/2b, depending on if I style it or not. But I want to start wearing it up every day because I've been too worried about growing it out. I just need to forget about it for a while. I'm at collarbone length right now.

Bunning questions :)?: Is bunning an efficient protective style? Yes the ends are tucked away, but as far as sleek buns, wouldn't the stress on the edges be damaging? Also how often do you redo your bun? Do you detangle when you redo it? If so depending on how often you redo your bun, it isn't really low manipulation, is it?
Just curious about your opinions. :)

I read Curly Nikki's old thread on here for her bunning challenge and it seemed like she and a lot of others got good results. As far as the edges I usually cowash and maybe do a braid out or stretch my hair somehow and then make my bun, and to keep it "sleek" looking i tie it with a satin scarf at night and then put a little product and tie it back up while I'm getting dressed in the morning. I would say I redo every 2 or 3 days when I cowash (usually closer to 3-4 days) so I do detangle. I guess its really up to you if its low manipulation, like it you redo it daily or something.

I plan on bunning for 4-5 years till I reach waist length. My hair is bunned from the moment I wake up 5am till around 12:30am. I let it breathe for about an hour right before I go to bed :). It is only ever worn down on the weekends which are wash/detangle/DC(Or PT) days. So far so good. Although I doubt it will take 5 years since I am 4'11 and for me MBL is BSL. I have a tiny torso. :-)

Omg I have the same issue lol I'm 4'10" and my hair is right at the end of my bra strap so it's MBL but its only 2 or 3 inches max from WL! I wear my hair in a bun all day except when i take it out to wash it from doing the inversion method the past 6 days. Once it's over in 1 more day I plan to wear it up a lot more to protect my ends. I have a sort of short torso so if I can get 8 more inches it will be hip length straightened! xD

Lol I like being short:-) it has it's perks. The inversion method confuses me, I would try i but I don't really understand it. XP. Congratulations on your hair length milestones :-) and good luck on your goals.

Haha Thanks! Good Luck to you too :D I kinda hate being so short.. If I was 5'2" I'd be happy though (and that still considered short since the avg woman is 5'4") Today is my last day for the inversion method I'm not sure if it's worked well but I think it might have helped even just a bit which is all I wanted anyway haha :)

Hey is the bunning challenge still going on? I like to bun 3-4 days a week..

I put my hair up in a bun literally everyday, but I don't understand what the binning challenge is?
  • Always@night[email protected] Posts: 566Registered Users Curl Neophyte
It's just wearing a bun as a protective style, with your ends covered to protect them and to help prevent breakage. Also to give your hair a break from the friction of touching your clothes and high manipulation styles.

I put my hair up like that but I'm not exactly sure how to tuck the ends of my hair, any suggestions? My hairs gotten pretty long so when I try to do styles it doesn't exactly turn out very well

This is so cool! I've been using Hot Buns, which I found at the "As Seen On TV" section at my local CVS. It makes bunning my mid-back, 3a hair a cinch.
