Anyone up for a pre-swim suit season fitness challenge?

Laura LeeLaura Lee Posts: 1,828Registered Users
So it's March, which in my neck of the woods means tank top, shorts, and swim suit season is about 10 weeks away. I'm personally at an all time high weight because of various health issues (PCOS and digestive problems)and the death of my teenage metabolism (RIP eating whatever I want). I'd love to try to lose a few lbs before the summer, but it's hard to stay motivated to get to the gym without some accountability.

Would anyone be up for a fitness challenge? I know there is a separate fitness board but I thought this forum would get more responses and also maybe rope in some people who wouldn't otherwise join in because they don't look at the fitness board.

If anyone is up for a 10 week challenge, feel free to join in, post your goals, and check in to stay accountable!

If this catches on, I'm thinking a rule of at least one update per week would be good. That's only 10 updates, so it's not a huge commitment to update daily or anything like that (unless you want to obviously!)

My goals:
-Gym 4x per week, combining cardio and weight training at least 2 days
-Yoga 2x per week.
-Take the stairs, not the elevator (I live on the 4th floor of my building)
-Cut soda to 1 per day and drink more water
-Feel better in a two-piece than I would if I put one on right now. I'm going to guess that would amount to about 10 lbs, but I don't have a scale and I think going by how I feel is a better gauge anyway.

Participants!

GreenJumper: lose 15 lbs
Myradella: lose 10-12 pounds by May 3

I'm up for this Laura Lee! Even if it's just the two of us, a buddy is better than no buddy. I also have a 5K coming up in July, which is not a big deal, but my cardio is not where it should be anymore (being that I was on the long distance running team in high school! Ugh.)
I would like to drop about 10lbs, too. I say that with a grain of salt because I'm not worried about the scale, more worried abut how my clothes fit.
My focus will be on what I consume, as for me, diet is about 80% of my problem. I need to cut carbs and pump up the protein.

Yay! I definitely need a buddy! I agree about the pounds lost not really being the key. I'd be fine if I only "lost" 5 pounds on the scale but traded some fat for some muscle mass.

I'm happy with my diet right now. I eat around 1800 cals a day and those are a good mix of proteins and grains and fruits/veggies. I think my biggest issue is that with being in grad school I just sit all day long. I don't even walk to classes because all my classes are all in the same building by necessity. I need to get moving again!

I'm at home for spring break right now, so no access to a gym this week, but I've got some free weights here. So this week I'm striving to do some strength training today, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

I need to lose weight! I guess I would like to join but I don't understand how these things work.

I need to lose weight! I guess I would like to join but I don't understand how these things work.

The way I see this going is that everyone who wants to participate will post their goals (no pressure to put a pound loss number; the goal could be anything from "lose 10 pounds" to just "get my heart rate up a certain number of times a week" or even just "increase the distance you can run/bike/swim/ellipitcal/whatever without feeling awful"). After you've posted your goal(s), check in at least once a week with what you've done toward achieving your goal. So since one of my goals is to get to the gym 4x a week, I will post how many times I went, and maybe what I did each day if I can remember. Or another one of my goals is to cut down on soda and up my water intake. So I will include in my weekly update how many sodas I drank each day.

The big idea is to have a shorter, defined period of time (10 weeks) where participants feel increased accountability for exercising or dieting or both to work toward goals at the end. For me, my goal is obviously swim suit season oriented. Nerdy's goal is to up her cardio training level and see a positive change in the way her clothes fit. Hopefully at the end of 10 weeks of work, we will both see some positive results.

    Does that work/make sense?

Oh, I was hoping you were gonna send someone to my house to get me out of bed in the mornings and onto the treadmill!:laughing9:

Just picture the whole forum standing in your bedroom telling you that you can do it! Alternatively, I set up my alarms on my phone on the mornings I want to work out to provide some motivation. First alarm: "Time to go work out!" Second alarm: "Get your butt out of bed and down to the gym!" Third alarm: "You're going to regret this extra sleep when you have to keep a towel wrapped around you this beach season" etc

    i'll sign up for a 5lbs loss.

Edit: make that 3lbs. That's probably more do-able.
Fat does not make you fat. It's actually pretty important.

Perfect timing. We just booked a beach vaca for the second week in May. I need to get my butt in gear!

I don't have a super specific goal, but I'll say lose 5lbs and a bit more would be a bonus! Really I'd just like to get back into the 120s, been hovering above it for a while now.

I'm going to plan to elliptical 3x week and go to yoga 1x a week.

Went to yoga yesterday, so check that one off for this week!

    Great idea, Laura Lee.
I'm in. This winter has not been kind. Between injuring my arm, DD1's being in the hospital, getting the flu, aunt in hospital/rehab I've had a lot of excuses not to exercise and then a hard time getting motivated to get back to the gym. That's over!

    I want to:
work out 3x or more each week
    eat intelligently
lose about 5 pounds/fit into my summer shorts
    3a/2c
Trader Joe's Tingle conditioner wash/ conditioner

I would like to finish my first triathlon in May in under 3 hours.
I'd like my training to go to plan.
If I lose 5 lbs along the way, that would be great.

As for eating - I find it very hard to limit portion sizes when I am working out 8-9 hours per week. But I guess my goal is to stick with whole unprocessed foods and limit the junk.

I'm in!! I took up my own sort of fitness quest a couple months ago, but I want to go all in and eat a lot better.

    goals:
-way way less junk food! limit all the chips, soda, chocolate, etc. and drink more water.

-work out five times a week, doing strength training for at least two of those days.

    -pilates once a week

I don't have a specific goal, but I want to be more toned overall, especially around my stomach and thighs.

I think Id like to join this thread I would like to lose 10 lbs, tone up, have more endurance with cardio, and weight train more try to be a bit more consistent with my working out

*tips for u ladies trying to lose try not eating carbs and load up on veggies and protein i.e meats, try to limit fruitsas they r sugars, sugars r healthy carbs but they r still carbs, if u do this u dont have to limit your caloric intake
  • tenapaigetenapaige Posts: 208Registered Users
Also if u have instagram check out @fitnessphysique tons of daily inspiraton and there are plenty of where that comes from

    Elliptical - done!

Amneris, you should join. Healthy weight loss is slow weight loss. And for many people, setting small incremental goals makes a big goal seem easier to attain. Ideally, I'd like to lose more than 5lbs, but probably not much more in 10 weeks!

Nothing major to report today except that I forewent the iced coffee drowned in heavy cream and the pseudo-protein bar and the 2/3 string cheeses. Had steel cut oats w/ dried fruit and almonds instead.

And I am getting the smallest size lobster bisque for lunch today (instead of the big ones I normally get). Also getting the large salad but planning to use half the dressing given.

    I'm in.

I have a broken ankle right now, and it's going to be probably 5 more weeks before I'm allowed to walk, but I want to get into some sort of core strength routine (whatever I can do in my current state) because it's something I've been neglecting for years despite doing lots and lots of running.

I want to really start strengthening as part of my normal workout routine, and it is my goal this year, while I am physically incapable of running a whole bunch of miles, to stop being lazy about it and make it habit.

I have no weight goals. I'm somewhat forced into being sedentary right now, so I would be shocked if I didn't gain weight. I'm just hoping to also gain some muscle :)

I'm currently enjoying my one and only soda for the day. Got my polka dot tumbler ready for the rest of the day to drink some water.

Fiance wants to go to Qdoba tonight. Sigh.

ETA: Found a good arm workout on youtube! /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dihok8WJnVd4" class="Popup

All I have for freeweights at home are 10lb weights, which I can curl and do kickbacks with but can't do the deltoid work with. So for those, I used two full 3 liter cranberry juice bottles, which the internet tells me is around 6lbs.

I want to do an Olympic bar weighted squat. That's my new goal. Just getting into the squat rack in the evenings is a pain, so it's likely to be done at the weekends. 10 weekends? I should be ok with that time frame. In case you don't know, I have a crap back.

If I manage to get through a workout without ending up covered in a sweaty mans fake tan, that'll also be a goal achieved.

You may have had dinner already, but I went to Qdoba for lunch last week and had the child-size naked burrito. Basically a burrito without the tortilla. I order it with chicken, veggies, beans, cheese, and guac. When I've ordered it in the past, I've ordered it without the rice, but this time I was bad--she put rice in the bowl before I could tell her not to, and I didn't have the willpower to tell her to take it out.

The way portion sizes are now, the child size is perfectly fine for an adult.

I want to join this challenge! But I need to think about what my goals will be. I fell off the fitness/diet wagon so hard during the holidays, and I've gotten back on with the fitness in the past week or two. The diet part is still a disaster. I think my goals will be: 1) lose 10-15 pounds; 2) work on toning the abs, which I guess is more of a diet thing than an exercise thing; 3) cut down on sugar/try to satisfy my sweet tooth with fruit.

Yesterday I ran 5 miles and swam 4,000 yards.
    Today I swam 4,200 yards.
Tomorrow I am going to a 45-minute spin class, 30 minutes of core, then a 30-minute run. Hopefully also get in ~2,500 yards in the pool as well.
Gotta get some strength training in sometime soon too.

I have been eating my face off.

I HAVE to get rid of this early-stages-of-pregnancy-esque belly. I actually don't even mind how the rest of my body looks but this midsection pudge has GOT to go.

I forced myself to run/walk yesterday.

Can anybody recommend a good running shoe for over-pronation? It kills my ankles, instep, and lower legs when I attempt to run. My feet are extremely flat and hardly any arch. I hate sneakers so I don't know about brands and stuff.

I wear Brooks Adrenaline. They have worked for me for many years for flat feet/overpronation. Running shoes are generally a personal preference thing though.

I have brooks that is geared toward flat feet also. I don't have flat feet I have a very prominent/high arch yet I run like a flat footed person I guess because that's all the shoe people could recommend when I did my running tests at the shoe store. :D

I still don't understand why all my things lead up to flat feet yet I do not have flat feet. My body is a mystery even to me. Maybe my feet are going to randomly cave in one day and be flat. Its the only thing I can come up with.
