My KCCC Conundrum - Thoughts?

I've been trying KCCC on and off and I can't seem to fall in love with it. I've read through all the post, tried a lot, tried a little, tried it with KCKT, etc.

The weird thing that happens every time with me is as soon as I apply it to my wet hair, my hair feels like it turns to straw. It's like there is negative slip! I can't figure out what is going on but there is no slip and it makes me want to stop touching my hair immediately and I'm afraid to work with it at all. Does it feel this way for anyone else?

Thanks!

Does the exact same thing to me. I haven't really seen anyone else say it does for them & I thought I was alone but you're not!! It doesn't have anything I think would be drying in it & everyone says its moisturizing but yes, negative slip is a good way to describe it.

The only way I've gotten it to work is mixing it with a lot of KCKT to soften that feel. Probably 2/3 KCKT to 1/3 KCCC. I don't get bad results, per say, but I've gotten better with other products. And I cannot stand the sickly sweet smell of it. Therefore I've got a little less than half a tub sitting in my bathroom that I haven't used in quite some time.

Yes, that happens to me every time I use KCCC, but when it dries it looks good. I use a curl creme first and then KCCC and as soon as I put in the KCCC I get this negative slip but I just scrunch and the KCCC does it's work. How do you feel about the finished result when you use KCCC?

Also happens to me. It's like I can't smooth it through my hair. I personally can stand the snotty, sticky, and smelly feel of it. It does look nice when it dries but I do find it major drying. I rarely use it.

I've been using KCCC since 2009 and I've noticed that feeling occasionally, like a stripped shampoo feeling. Like curlypearl, my results generally come out fine regardless of the feeling. I usually notice it when there isn't enough water/moisture on my hair for the KCCC to "activate" or if the surface of my hair isn't smooth (as in too many competing products). I end up doing one of two things to avoid the feeling. I use a butter based pomade to seal my wet hair before applying KCCC (plain shea butter, sophia's hair grease or anything with thick oils). If your hair is on the fine side, a cream should work too. Anything that will create a layer, like a base coat does for nail polish. It should give the KCCC something to "stick to." If I'm not using a base, I make sure my hair is really saturated before KCCC, not just wet. I apply immediately after washing/conditioning when the hair is holding onto the most water. For my best results, I do a combo of the two.

Anything with aloe vera in it produces the same feeling in my hair, I just can't use it.

My hair takes all day to dry when I've used it. Honestly: about 10 hours.

    Not good.

I think the idea of a good cream might be the ticket. Any recommendations? I used to use Garnier Fructis Curl Cream, but stopped because it has cones.

Actually, after it sets on my hair a bit, it feels softer. It looks okay, but not necessarily stellar. I probably won't buy again.

Try Shea moisture smoothie. I love KCCC, but didn't until I started using it when my hair was 50% dry. Then I diffuse.

I apply my KCCC after a, applying leave in, and b, scrunch squeezing out as much water as possible. That works for me. If I apply KCCC to super wet hair it doesn't give me as great curl formation for some reason. I love the product though. I think it's the best hair product I've ever bought at the store.

Its really strange but back 2 years ago when I was using KCCC, I would get the exact same reaction. It felt really straw-like on my hair. The results came out ok then, but I still wasn't satisfied. I tried a little, I tried a lot, I made my hair really wet, and nothing worked. Also, like someone else who mentioned it, KCCC never dried. 10hrs + and I was still with damp hair.

Now 2 years later, for whatever reason, it really works on my hair now with SS CEJ and I have no idea why. On top of that now KCCC dries in my hair really fast.

Maybe your hair isn't in the right condition for it to work? (I don't mean your hair is damaged, but maybe isn't the right texture or something for it to work?). Also, just wondering how wet is your hair when you put it on? I put it on right after I come out of the shower, no towel or anything, with my hair dripping puddles on the bathroom floor..:hmph:

That used to happen to me, so I started mixing kccc with a little water in my hands and that seemed to fix the problem. However, when my hair is better conditioned I don't have the problem.

Honestly, I have never tried it alone. My fine hair needs lots of moisture, so I layer EVERYTHING with my TRESemme Naturals Radiant Volume. I don't have the straw feeling problem when I layer.

Today was the very first time my hair felt like this when applying KCCC. It was also the first time I used it over nothing but KCKT. So, KCKT is definitely not moisturizing enough for me. My hair actually turned out fine when it dried, but it felt so strange and I kept applying more KCCC because it didn't feel moisturized and my ends were drying really fast before I ever finished apply KCCC.
I had used the KCKT a few times and never had issues but realized I was using a curl cream over my KCKT. I have never had any issues with applying KCCC otherwise. I usually use it over a curl cream or moisturizing leave in with fantastic results.
So now I know. I won't be using only KCKT and KCCC without a curl cream in between.
So I would also suggest something more moisturizing under KCCC, like a Leave-in or curl cream.
