I, for one, am SO GLAD Bates is out of jail. I thought he'd never get out.

I'm glad he's out, too, but I didn't really like how his release was just kind of abrupt.

I can't believe I'm feeling bad for Thomas this season but I am. It must have been so hard to be gay back then. (not saying it's EASY now, just saying)

Pissed about the WAY Matthew died. I dunno. I mean, I knew he was going but with his eyes open and the blood leaking out of his ears. Did not like.

    I love this darn show!

Hate that everyone is dying who should be celebrating the birth of their babies. :-|

How did Thomas find out about the slipping on the soap? Did O'Brien tell him and I missed it? I remember him being the one that convinced O'Brien that Cora was going to replace her then the soap happened.

    I keep remembering stuff.

I loved, loved how Mrs. Patmore was so smitten with the grocery guy flirting with her then such relief in the end when she found out the truth and all the laughing. I just love her.

Cousin Rose has such pretty curls.

Edith and the newspaper man, scandalous.

Can't any of the Downton girls be happy??

UGH. I don't like him any longer. The actor that plays Matthew chose to leave so they had to off him

I think he'll be sorry he left the show. It seems like most actors who leave a popular show to do "bigger and better" things just fade into oblivion.

I think Jessica Brown Findlay (Sybil) will regret it too.

I hear O'Brien won't be back next season. Apparently, she's going to go to India with the Scottish family relations they visited at the end of season 3.

Incidently, the actor who plays O'Brien, Siobhan Finneran, is quite cute in real life...maybe she got tired of looking bad:

I think this is true, too. I mean, what more do they want? The show is extremely popular. Staying for the long haul would make them even more popular with a fan base that would follow you elsewhere.

I guess if they weren't truly happy...

I think I'll miss Sybil more than Matthew.

I also heard that they will be having a black character next season. He's going to be a singer. Maybe a SECRET (lol) boyfriend for Rose? I don't see him being truly a part of their high class circle any other way, do you all? Maybe if the Lord invests in his talents? Or if Branson wants to start a jazz club...? Haha, obviously I have no idea.

Otherwise, he'll be mostly on the sidelines as a token diversity character which I wouldn't like.

Hey, stop it with the spoilers for BEYOND season 3, lol! I didn't know anyone else was leaving. And did the actress who played Sybil choose to leave? I thought that was just a cruel plot twist that the writers came up with.

As for Dan Stevens... well, I can hardly blame him after some of the lame story lines his character was stuck with, although I loooved Matthew. I wish they'd given him a few more opportunities to do interesting stuff... like why didn't he, as a solicitor, help to clear Bates? He went to the trial to "interpret" the legal jargon for the family, that's all. And did he try to help Gregson find a way out of the legal trap he's in?

I DO blame Stevens for not agreeing to come back for just a couple of episodes in Season 4-- really, would that have killed him? (haha) Then they wouldn't have had to write him out so abruptly.

I'm sad to see Dan Stevens leave the show but in his defense he said well before the third year had even started that he was leaving. He got the opportunity to be in a Broadway production, The Heiress and was only in contract to Downton Abbey for three years. I guess three year contracts are normal in Britain where six year contracts are the norm in the US. He's a writer, actor, producer, etc. I don't think he wanted to always be known as Matthew. He might play Mr. Darcy in PD James's Death Comes to Pemberley that is supposed to be filmed this summer.

I love the show but it has gotten too depressing for me. If the fourth season doesn't have some happy I'm not sure I'll still be watching. I watched all of Upstairs Downstairs on Netflix last year. Some sad but better balanced with happy, like life.

O'Brien is leaving off-camera, so technically it's not a spoiler. You'll tune in to Season 4 and she'll already be gone.

I have no problem at all with Dan wanting to leave. And some people aren't looking for fame and fortune, they just want a little variety, so I say more power to him. I'm fine with Matthew dying too, it just would have been nice if it hadn't happened THE EXACT SAME DAY his son was born.

I think anyone would be nuts to leave this show at it's height. No offense to Broadway, but really, nothing on Broadway could be bigger or better that what Downton is right now. In a few years it might suck and that would be a good time to leave. But now? Crazy.

I agree, I will miss Sybil more than Matthew. I didn't like seeing her interesting story line end so suddenly. I wanted to see her get involved with women's issues, etc.

I also agree that they need to have more comedic relief and some happy characters.
More time spent 'downstairs' would please me.
    Oh, and I don't mean that in a dirty way. : )

I'm so glad that the Bates/jail storyline is over. I was so done with it after the first 5 minutes, quite frankly! Haha

I'm sad to see everyone dying! But yeah, I'll definitely miss Sybil more. And I am really curious to see what happens with Branson. I'm kind of glad they made that maid leave... I wasn't ready for him to move on yet.

Bates and Anna are sweet, but there is always this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that there is more going on with him than he's letting on. Something sinister, but I hope I'm wrong!

But he's so cute! I understand the sinister bit you're talking about when he went after his "wife" in season 2 when she came to the house and was taunting him. He's a big guy and I wouldn't pull his tail.

OT, but I must mention that he does seem to play a lot of the same type of characters in a lot of the movies he's been in (strictly incidental, me falling upon other movies he's been in, I promise! I ended up finding 2 other British drama's that have him in it) and he's supposedly this big burly guy people are afraid of, but he's a big softy, so maybe there isn't so much sinister if he remains true to form in character types.

ETA: He seems to play SOME of the same type of characters...apparently, he's in a lot more shows than I thought.

He can be such a badass. I used to think it was just for show, but he's physically threatened so many people by now, I'm starting to think he really does have criminal tendencies.

Would be some hell of a plot twist!

I LOVE that Bates has a mysterious bad guy side. : )

I felt pretty sure he killed his wife. I thought Anna would find out and her big dilemma would be - she had it coming so do I help him get away with it? Pastry seems a bit of a let down.

It sucks that O'Brien won't be coming back (and IMO, that is still a spoiler). She was fantastic as a baddie who wasn't all bad. If Thomas defects, I quit.

No, I agree, it doesn't seem to be completely over. But at least for the time being, I'm glad not to have to deal with anymore jail/court room scenes. It just got to be so boring.

I agree. It's weird how they dragged that storyline out when so many others go from beginning to end in the blink of an eye.

Speaking of, has anyone else been waiting for something to happen with that amnesiac scarred lost heir? Not that I was crazy about the idea, but they dropped it so quickly.

Sorry, I didn't mean to belittle your spoilediness.

I changed the title, will people mind if there are spoilers from the future? I guess spoilers never bother me, so I don't mind hearing them, but I can understand if you want a place to only discuss what has aired instead of everything.

I personally hate spoilers, but many people don't mind them.
I like it when spoilers are in white so those of us who don't want things ruined don't have to read them, while other can.

Sorry to anyone who didn't want to know anything that happens in the future! (Concerning one of my previous post)

I think one of the problems we may run into when allowing spoilers is when the UK gets season 4 and the US does not. I mean, that's basically what happened withe the other thread. I like that minor kind of spoilers (mostly because I like speculating about what will happen next season!) when people are waiting for the new season to start

I don't mind putting speculations/spoilers in white or leaving them out all together if anyone wants!
