Curl cream recs, please!

MyrnaMyrna Posts: 2,359Registered Users Curl Connoisseur
The only one I have ever used is the Aveda Curls one, and that was a LONG time ago. I still have it. So: my hair is between 3A and 3B depending on the weather. The Frizz Forecaster says I need something like curl cream, so I need recs. Should I try my Aveda again? It also says use as little gel as possible and stay away from glycerin, which I know about the glycerin. Current routine is low pooing with SM Moisture retention or coconut hibiscus; GVPCB, or some lighter conditioner; Biotera gel and Deva foam. Any suggestions, please? nothing with cones, pls.

Have you tried SM's milk or smoothie? Or the soufflé?

I second the soufflé. It really is amazing. I cowash with AIA Coconut cowash; GVPCB; CJ Beauticurls leave in; SM soufflé raked in then scrunched. Wrap my hair in a microfiber towel. Once out of the shower take off microfiber towel; put in some CJ curls in a bottle and plop for 20 mins. Then remove plop and use the CHS roller jaw claps for root lift. Once hair is 100% dry, scrunch out some lil crunch and perfect hair that lasts 3 days!

No, Jas, I have had my eye on the SM CH milk but have not bought it..the other products would be, I think, too heavy for my hair, what do you think?

    I like AG Re:Coil
Medium texture, normal porosity, normal elasticity

Curlfriends, I think both the smoothie and the souffle have glycerin. A no no for me. I know a lot of us like the AG recoil but I dont know where to get it here on the ground. Am looking into it. Reviews of the Coconut Hibiscus Milk say it does not do much for definition. I need definition and hold. Pls keep those recs coming! and your comments.

Ulta carries it, if you have one nearby.

I noticed that the SM Yucca Milk had Glycerin when all the other products of the line lacked the ingredient. BUT I checked the SM Coconut and Hibiscus Milk and it does not contain Glycerin. I used that and KCCC today. Maybe you'll find this helpful.

i've used deep treatments as curl cream -- i don't rake it in my hair, just scrunch it in. it's about moisture, and so it works for my hair! if dew points are low, i then scrunch with jane carter nourish & shine to seal it in.

    3a, some 2c & 3b, medium texture, porosity normal, low elasticity :-(

That video was a hoot! Pixar, I know that the milk has no glycerin, that is why I have been eyeballing it; but, the reviews are mixed as far as what it does. Today I used my Aveda Be Curly Enhancer, and over that my Deva foam I will report back on how it works. If I dont have good luck with it, i will go the Ulta here, which, just opened! and see if I can get AG ReCoil since so many here like it. Cuz the frizz forecast said my 3A/3B curls will be limp, and they need as little gel and as much moisture as possible....:blob3:

In the winter, I stick with AG Re:Coil and LA Looks gel on top. In the summer, I like the combo of Biotera curl cream with Biotera gel on top (both from Sally's).

I'll be honest, I've never bought Re:Coil brand new...every tube I've ever gotten has been off the swap board here! :-)

How about Mop curl cream if it is back in stock (it had been discontinued but I saw on another thread I think that it is coming back)?

    MOP C-System C-Curl Curl Defining Cream - NaturallyCurly.com

I haven't used it so can't recommend from personal experience but I want to try it.
    UK based wavy :hello2:

Mostly waves, but curls and straight bits too!
Fine to medium, high porosity, medium density, very low elasticity
Highlights damage (growing it out), seems to like protein and need lots of moisture.

Cleanse - CJDF, trying out low poos ; Co wash- Uk chemist brands, Urtekram Rose or Aloe, Hairveda Amala Cream Rinse; RO - varies, Tigi Moisture Maniac, Desert Essence Coconut ; Leave in - Keracare natural textures; Sealant - argan oil
Trying out new things, still looking.

Report so far: Used Aveda's curl enhancer with Deva foam. So far my hair is ok, but I am used to a bit of crunch, and I dont have any. I was at Sally's for my GVPCB, and resisted the temptation to get the Coconut hibiscus milk, because people here are saying it has no hold. I need hold. I think tomorrow I will go ISO AG Re:Coil.

2c, some straight pieces on canopy, curlier underneath. Fine, thin, unsure on porosity - sent in my sample and waiting to hear back. Products - have a bunch I am trying out, CJ, Deva, SM Yucca, TJ.

Who makes this and where do you get it?
  • asianrunnerasianrunner Posts: 2,251Registered Users
I know you don't want glycerin recs, but my hair is somewhat sensitive to glycerin but doesn't have a problem with Curly Kinks Coil Jam or CJ CCCC. They don't leave your hair producty and give me great waves! You would need a gel on top for hold though.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Beauticurls, CJ Smoothing

    jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC
gels: CJ CQ, CJ Pattern Pusha, BRHG

Macadamia oil makes it, I think the full name is macadamia oil natural oil revitalizing curl cream....its a crazy long name. I got it at ulta, I got a 10 dollar trial size, the big one is 15 I think. Amazon carries it too, and has some reviews.

Myrna - where did the ulta open? I can't wait to go! Also, I have a bottle of the SM milk that didn't work for me. Msg me if you're interested :)
  • MyrnaMyrna Posts: 2,359Registered Users Curl Connoisseur
I dont know, but it is listed on the web as being on Zeier road. I might be interested in the CH Milk; what did you hope it would do and what didnt it do?

Give my hair moisture but it turned out to be too oily for me. I had my Live curly live free analysis done afterwards and was told to stay away from all things with heavy emollients.

Thanks, SKorpio, your hair looks a lot like mine; is yours a mix of 3A/3B?
