Aw I love pit bullss and like seeing stories that show they aren't all vicious.

I still remember the pit bulls/pit bull crosses that came into the shelter when I worked there. All of them were absolute sweethearts.

Although now I find myself sad about one of the pit crosses in particular. I miss her greatly and hope she knew that at least someone cared about her before she was euthanized (for no good reason in my books).

I know that story! I love that story, CC! It's on my doggy blog, it made me so happy.
Mojo, I can't deal very well with euth. stuff. I know you meant well, but it really upsets the **** out of me. But thank you for being kind to all the dogs you could.

That is a good story. It breaks my heart when seniors go missing (it's quite common) so I am glad this dog was around to help.

I could not justify calling an entire dog breed vicious. Have I been around vicious PB's? Yes BUT they were trained to be that way by some sorry humans. That has led to some sad situations and attacks.

This is a good story, too.

IME, emergency responders do more to help animals than anyone begins to know. I guess that has something to do with most of the focus being put on negative stories.

    That is absolutely true.^

I have had people reach out to pet my dogs (who respond with smiles and tail wags), only to watch as they pull away in terror when I answer their question about the breed. And there's one little girl who stares at Mia with horror and terror, though she is possibly the happiest dog I have ever known. Her whole family fears dogs of all sizes. I think it's sad.

On the other hand, I must admit that when I take Mia places and people pet her and already know about and disregard breed stereotyping, I'm a little disappointed that she doesn't get to be a breed ambassadoress. Not too much, though. ;)

There are a number of posters here who hate the breed, so that's all I'll say for now. :)

My Mom has two Rottweilers that are just babies. People come over terrified by dogs and will have them in their laps by the end of the night.

Last summer my parents went away, so I took them to the cottage with me. We went into town and was I walking them on a brace. The amount of people that would find out what they were and jump after they had been sitting on the ground playing with them was crazy. I started telling people they were German Labs

Trust me I had nothing to do with the decision. I didn't even know until it happened. You have no idea how upset I was (and still am, this was years ago and I still remember her sweet face).

I am sorry I upset you though. Just every time I hear stories about pitty's I can't help but be reminded if her. It's terrible, I know.

I remember my neighbor got 3 pit bulls he rescued. they were the cutest. the girl was so sweet and slow. it would take her days to cross the street i swear!! everytime she would see me or someone in my family. she would try to run to us. her trying to jump in order to gives kisses were priceless! she had to give kisses before she went into the house so we would had to come down to her level. then she would cover you in a million puppy kisses!!!

    They LOVE kissing.

I like it when Mia snuffles in my ear and I feel her whiskers on my face. If I so much as move when she's in the room, her tail starts wagging.

However, she chewed on my emergency brake and my seat belts the other day, so it's time for one of those doggy car fence things. Anyone have any experience with them?

Saw this today & thought of the pit lovers here, since they are one of the primary targets of laws restricting particular breeds:
OFFICIAL THE WHITE HOUSE RESPONSE TO
Ban and outlaw Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) in the United States of America on a Federal level!
Breed-Specific Legislation Is a Bad Idea
    Thanks for your petition.

We don't support breed-specific legislation -- research shows that bans on certain types of dogs are largely ineffective and often a waste of public resources.

In 2000, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looked at twenty years of data about dog bites and human fatalities in the United States. They found that fatal attacks represent a very small proportion of dog bite injuries to people and that it's virtually impossible to calculate bite rates for specific breeds.

The CDC also noted that the types of people who look to exploit dogs aren't deterred by breed regulations -- when their communities establish a ban, these people just seek out new, unregulated breeds. And the simple fact is that dogs of any breed can become dangerous when they're intentionally or unintentionally raised to be aggressive.

For all those reasons, the CDC officially recommends against breed-specific legislation -- which they call inappropriate. You can read more from them here.

As an alternative to breed-specific policies, the CDC recommends a community-based approach to prevent dog bites. And ultimately, we think that's a much more promising way to build stronger communities of pets and pet owners.
