Where can I add daily protein?

HouseofcurlsHouseofcurls Posts: 322Registered Users
I cowash with TJ's tea tree tingle condish, then I condition with Shea Moisture moisture retention. I do fsg, then SM smoothie, then a little KCCC.
I do a PT of egg yolks and rum weekly, and my hair ADORES it. Ive done just coconut oil and it doesnt do it after that.
My question is, where should/can I add in protein? and what should I add in?

Thanks!

I just started using Aubrey Organics Glycogen Protein Balancing condish and I love it. It has milk protein and glycoprotein in the ingredient list, but it's nicely moisturizing at the same time. It seems like a hefty dose of protein, so you could try rotating that as a rinse-out with the SM moisture retention.

If your hair likes some daily protein, you could try a new recipe and add some protein into your fsg recipe. I'm pretty sure I've seen some recipes out there that call for adding gelatin to fsg.

I agree! I just got a slightly protein heavier conditioner and am planning on using it once a week at least to see how my hair reacts. It perked up the last time I used it. (Must be my porosity needs some protein.) I'm also going to try out a mayonnaise prepoo thingy.

I wash my scalp and detangle with Suave condish, rinse, then condition with GVP reconstructor (protein rich) and let it soak in while I do other things. Then I rinse it all out and apply some Suave as leave-in. :grommit:

Wash routine: sometimes coconut oil treatment, CO wash with Suave, rinse, GVP Hair Reconstructor, rinse, LI Suave, plop, air-dry :happy2:
Non-wash days: Smooth hair with water and Suave, sometimes olive oil to seal
Bad for me: Phenoxyethanol irritates scalp, Distearyldimonium Chloride & Quaternium-87 straighten hair

I agree, adding protein in through ur rinse out works wonders. It just enough to add strength, but not overdose or rely on protein heavy stylers...:) good luck!

So I ended up purchasing the generic conditioning balm from Sally's. holy moly! I also got new highlights so it needed the protein. My hair feels like silk, no knots, no tangles. Just silk! Ahhhh!

I'm new so someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there's any protein in the GVP conditioning balm. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding your post?

I've been trying the Ion protein conditioner (red line), its really thick but rinses out clean. I tried the Cure Care as a cowash and leave in but it left a waxy feeling in my hair and on my hands, not sure what in it would cause that.

I thought there was...even if there's not, my hair is in love. The curl today is better than ever. Not typical for the day after bleaching.

I second aubrey GPB conditioner...for me its the right balance of protein and moisture..My hair just loves it:love5:!!!!...I find that using a protein for my cowash/RO gives better curl/ results than using protein heavy products...With the GPB conditioner; I find that I can use almost everytime I wash...It is my HG product:wav:..I have very fine low porosity hair, and many other products that Ive tried, just weighted down or O/C'd my hair...The GPB is just perfect:)
