What's everyone's fAvorite protein treatments?

I've been wanting to buy a protein treatment but don't know where to start. I'm new to the forum and site so I haven't heard the news on popular ones. I'd prefer something cheaper too! My hair is super porous, dry/damaged, and barely curls. I have thick 3b hair with a coarse texture. Just this week ice started the CG method so I'd like to keep it silicone free as well please :) any suggestions for this newbie?

Mayonnaise treatment. I don't need a lot of protein as I have low porosity and thick strands, but when moisture doesn't seem to do the job, I put mayo in my hair for half an hour before I wash. The result? Shiny (not SUPER shiny) hair and less frizz.
-2b waist-length hair (ringlets in the front and canopy, straighter under-layer)
    -Dense head of med-coarse strands
    -Low
    porosity

Question: Do you put mayo on clean hair before you wash or just on top of your already day old hair that has product in it? Also how much do you put in for your particular length?

(I really want to try a PT but I'm a little wary of overdoing it.)

I just put it on day old hair. Sometimes I detangle with olive oil first before applying the mayo. I use about 4 tablespoons for my thick dense head of waist length hair. Some people just saturate it completely until its goopy, but I use just enough to coat the length (not the roots). I wash it out with conditioner after letting it sit under a shower cap for half an hour.

If you don't want to overdo it, don't leave it in longer than 30 minutes. :)

I love Colorful Neutral Protein Filler (Sally's) at a 1:1 ratio with distilled water. It really gives my hair the "teeth" it needs to support my waves. I use it in a spray bottle right after I wash my hair OUT of the shower. I spray it in, then add my LI and style as usual.

Do y'all use just regular gelatin from the cooking aisle or from somewhere else? Is there a certain way you mix and do it? Same goes with the mayo. It's not from the cooking aisle is it??

As weird as it may sounds, yeah its from the cooking aisle.

I may try this tomorrow. I'll stop by the supermarket and get some mayonnaise then. My hair's thick too and just over the backstrap (longest layers) so maybe two tbsp for me! Thanks for your help.

I went CG in January of this year, and lately may hair was just limp, and felt almost like it was over-producted no matter what I did. Was ok when it was wet, had curls but once it went completely dry it was horrible - really limp and lifeless. So last night I did the Gelatin PT - IAgirls recipe, OMG what a difference!!!!

By far Spiral Solutions Repairing Protein Treatment - I thought Runnerchikki had gone out of business, but after I first posted this, I decided to go check again, and lo and behold, she's b-a-c-k!

May still try Colorful Neutral Protein Filler as I've read other good things about it, and it's readily available.
    2C/3A/3B - modified CG - fairly fine now, normal/low porosity/normal elasticity

Current Main Rotation: MG217 medicated or Aim2Health 'poos for scalp, Elucence cond., Spiral Solutions Protein & Deeply Decadent Cond., CJCCCC reg or lite,CJ Pattern Pusha,, Giovanni LA Hold Hair Spritz + lots more, sporadically

HG Method: Super Soaker + Smasters-ing, brief upside down diffusing w/360o diffuser then clips/clamps & air dry. Newly gray - stopped my henna glosses!

Gelatin is certainly the cheapest. It's collagen protein. Nature's Gate Conditioners are good too, they have vegetable protein. My hair likes GVP reconstructor from Sally's the best, it has keratin protein. Some people's hair is very particular about the protein it likes, so if one kind doesn't work for you another kind might. :nemo:
    AKA earthnut :blob7:
2c/M/ii, healthy, random kinks, waist length, platinum black!
Wash routine: sometimes coconut oil treatment, CO wash with Suave, rinse, GVP Hair Reconstructor, rinse, LI Suave, plop, air-dry :happy2:
Non-wash days: Smooth hair with water and Suave, sometimes olive oil to seal
Bad for me: Phenoxyethanol irritates scalp, Distearyldimonium Chloride & Quaternium-87 straighten hair
Holy Grail Conditioners, Suave Naturals with Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine!

I use something I bought for a completely different purpose! It's California baby detangling spray. The second ingredient is quinoa protein. Does the job for me. I bought this as a detangler, and it did nothing for me. But I tried it the other day when I noticed limp hair and Los of curl. I thought I would try it because I already had it in my stash. Perfect, spray entire head when damp=happy curls come back! I applied this first, then kckt followed by biotera gel and diffused.

Leave-in: ABBA Pure Gentle, KCKT, Henna Sooq cocoveda oil.

I don't PT in the conventional sense, I leave my rinse out in for the duration of my shower and for a heavier dose of protein, I will alternate VO5 Shea (healthy dose of keratin) with suave coconut (light dose of silk proteins). The balance of the two makes a mean HG combo! :)

For a serious PT I use Aphogee 2 step (2 pack) this stuff stinks and makes your hair rock hard but it works! I only use this once in a blue moon. For a regular PT I use ORS hair mayo.
