Intro & Seeking Advice for 2c/3a!

Hello everyone!
I am so excited to finally be a part of this curly girl community! I've been following the CG method since June 2012, and am finally joining :)

I still can't tell if I am 2c or 3a, what do you think??? My curls turn out to be more like ringlets, but the underneath layer in the back can sometimes only turn out wavy. Also, the first inch or two from my roots generally refuses to curl. I don't know if this is just from my hair type or if I simply haven't learned how the right routine for my hair yet.

I've only been sticking to the DevaCurl line of products for the past 8 months of following CG method, but am looking now to try products that other 2c or 3a's have found work for them! {Hair twins, please reply with what works for you!}

Plopping with a microfiber towel makes my hair frizzier every time, so I've been staying away from that. Plopping overnight sometimes works AMAZING and gives me great curl definition (other times my hair is so wACkY!!! haha) and great volume in the length of the hair, but it leaves my hair flat against my head :( I'm hoping to find a way to cut down on drying time without making my hair frizzy!

Any suggestions, advice, discernment on my hair type, or hello's are much appreciated! I'm excited to journey with you all :)

    Welcome, shalomcurls! Glad you've joined us and glad you're seeing good results. We are not hair twins so I have no specific input for you. Your curl pattern looks to be 3A. I've also had inconsistent results with plopping. I scrunch with a curls like us towel to get some of the water out then diffuse for a few minutes and air dry the rest of the way. It will still take my hair about 3 hours to air dry. If I'm in a hurry, I'll diffuse longer.

    Curl type is transient. It changes based on products, technique and weather. Knowing your hair properties will help you a lot more--and help others give you advice. It's the best way to choose ingredients/products. Here's a link to help you with yours Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics Once you determine your hair properties look for others with similar hair and see what they use (in signatures.) It's the best place to start.

    2c/3a is a common place to start. Before I started lurking on nc.com, my hair was winter wavy/summer 3a. I started using products/technique and my hair looks like my signature picture all year around.

    Around here, Deva is a love/hate line. Many of us start out with it, think we like it and move on to things that we like a lot better. Unfortunately, it's a lot of trial and error finding what works for you.

    I found that microfiber towels gave me frizz, too. Stick to Curlease, Curls Like Us, flour sack or cotton tee shirts and you won't have that problem.

    Foundation to great hair is a really good haircut. You need to start with good shape and appropriate layers. After that, it's the products and technique.

    Best thing you can do is read, read and read some more.
