The texture of my hair is fine. I get overly soft hair but frizzy hair when it gets overconditioned. A good protein treatment usually does the trick for me. I try to do a PT every week, watch the amount of moisture/conditioners I use and clarify at least once a month.

what would be a good protein treatment?

Another poster here (IAGirl) came up with this recipe for a homemade protein treatment a few years back. It's easy, cheap and works wonders for my hair.

    IAGirl's PT:
1 packet of Knox unflavored gelatin powder
1/4 to 1/3 cup boiling water
    1/4 teaspoon vinegar
1-3 drops of oil (any oil - I use olive oil)
    - Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water, stirring constantly (you may want to soften the gelatin in a small amount of water first as suggested by NaturallyCurly.com user Wavymom - this eliminates lumps and I am so grateful to her for solving this problem)!
    - Add the vinegar and oil as it cools and add any other add-ins, mixing thoroughly (some folks add honey, other oils, conditioner, extra vinegar, etc)
-Let the mixture cool until it starts to thicken (about 30 minutes). If it cools too much and sets up too thick to use, microwave it for a few seconds to soften it again. I usually low-poo or clarify my hair while the PT cools.
    -Apply to clean, damp hair.
-I usually put on a plastic cap and leave it in for about an hour before rinsing it out in the shower. The plastic cap holds the heat from my head and the heat helps the treatment penetrate the hair. Sometimes I'll do a workout while it sets. Others put on a plastic cap and get right in the shower letting the warm water run over the plastic cap for several minutes to add heat. Some will use a blow dryer for heat before getting in the shower. This method will make your hair very stiff but it rinses out nicely.
-Follow up your PT with a good conditioner.

There are several PTs available in stores but this is by far my favorite. Keep us posted on what works for you!
