Charged with murder.
I saw this on the news earlier when they said he'd shot his girlfriend by accident when she came home to surprise him for Valentine's Day. Have just seen an update and they said he'd been charged with murder, apparently there's been 'incidents' in the past between them.
Wow, one of the olympic heroes, not so much maybe.

Isn't he the South African runner with prostheses that look like blades?

I'm wondering how this will pan out.

CNN is reporting that he thought she was an intruder. I didn't know about a history.

    Sad.

I heard that he shot her 4 times and that the police were called to his home several times due to domestic disturbances. I don't think it was accident, unless the early info is incorrect, which it can be sometimes.

Guns. If there's a gun in the house, you're a thousand times more likely to have the gun used against you than used to defend you.

I read law enforcement was summoned for several "domestic" disputes between these two, and they had only been dating a few months. Guns and a bad relationship don't go well together. If I had owned a gun during my previous marriage, I would surely have shot and killed him and I'd be writing this post from prison right now, instead of my warm comfy home.

I read she was shot twice. Once in the arm and once in the head. :confused3:
    From Michael Berg:

Every person has a unique connection to the Creator that can never be extinguished, and every person has a great soul that can manifest important things in our world. To make a person feel less than they are because of something inside themselves, be it faith, race, or sexual orientation, is the greatest sin of all."

You know those old movies where a woman is an an insane asylum and she's just sitting on the front lawn in an Adirondack chair in a robe and then the nurse comes out and gives her orange juice laced with thorazine? And if someone comes to visit her and she gets upset the nurse makes them leave?

That always sounded like the best vacation to me.

This is why I fear for one of my friends. She's dating someone (and lives with him) who has been violent towards her and sleeps with a gun under his pillow. I fear for her so much, I've told her, but there is nothing I can do until she sees that that's not where she needs to be. Guns and violent relationships are the worst combination.

It's scary that the victim was so involved with ending violence against women, yet she was in an abusive relationship for a few months. Was she in denial? She seems old enough (29 or 30) to recognize the signs, given her cause and past modeling career. Maybe she tried breaking up with him this time? I'm not blaming her for him shooting her. I just find it crazy that she stayed with him since she was championing other people to end violence against women. The media I've heard makes it seem as if he is the violent one - not her.

Was it clear the domestic disturbances involved her? Or could they have been btwn Oscar and other women?

Are we sure Pistorius has a history of domestic violence? Or was it just a comment made by a police officer to the cameras? I haven't read enough.

I have heard that the police are confirming that they have responded to more than one domestic disturbance at his house in recent months. They didn't say it was her.

The situation is horrible, and either way its so incredibly sad for her friends and family. SA is a pretty scary place though, and I can easily see that being the reaction if he really thought it was an intruder.

I only saw the police officer on TV, haven't heard much else. On the radio news this morning they said she'd been shot 'several' times. Seems a bit much if he thought she was an intruder, would one shot to stop them not be enough?
Must agree with Curly Canadian though, SA is by all accounts an scary place to be.

All cities, all over the world, are scary places to be. Depends on what area you're in, I suppose. This guy lived in a nice neighborhood, in a gated community.

To listen to the NRA leader recently, he said there were marauding gangs of thugs roaming Brooklyn, raping and pillaging, during the hurricaine last fall, and that people should be able to have semi-automatic assault weapons, which shoot multiple rounds in fractions of a second, to defend themselves. If we all follow their directions to buy-more-guns, then shooting suspected intruders multiple times will become almost "normal"...no?

Per NPR, the police have been called to his home more than once for domestic disturbances. He also physically hit a woman at a bar. I don't know if the victim were involved but neighbors told police they heard arguing per NPR before the four shots were fired.

What if he believed her to be an intruder?

I remember the story of another south African who shot an 'intruder' who he believed was about to steal his daughter's car in the drive way . Turns out the person he shot dead was his own daughter who was going to surprise her boyfriend.

When people don't just come to rob , but torture and rape in the process, I'd have a gun too.

The story is still incomplete anyway , what's the motive ? Didn't he hear her scream after the first shot ?

It is a sad story all round , and I Trully hope it was an accident

I thought after posting that surely he must live in one of the 'better' areas so it made it less likely that the initial story would be true, but then if you don't have experience of the place then you can't really say (I mean you generally).
Re the NRA, that is a scary thought.
