Kinky Curly Knot Today? Love it or hate it?

I've been doing CG since mid October, and I just bought some KCKT. Every time I have used it my hair is nasty. floppy and gross, just flat and almost...I guess maybe over-conditioned?
Am I the only one? like, everyone I've read about loves it? What could be the thing making my hair hate it? Does anyone else find it too heavy? I dont know, it's so weird. I love the KCCC!!
Argh. $12 down the drain.angry9:

There's nothing worse than money down the drain, is there? I love it and for me it feels very light-but then I don't use much. Maybe a quarter size for my whole head of hair. And when I use my SM smoothie as a base styler I skip the knot today usually.

Actually if I keep falling in love with my smoothie I may not need the knot today anymore. But I'll still love it. . .

I actually love this product..It took time for me to get use to and for my hair to get use to but the results are Wonderful! I have 3c/4a hair btw. I use it in my hair after I wash it which would be every week and I got the product about a month ago.

I have a difficult time using the KCCC; Any tips/suggestions?
  • CalendulaCalendula Posts: 60Registered Users
I'm surprised you find it too heavy. My hair is easily weighed down and I find KCKT the perfect weight. I don't really need it as a detangler because my hair can be detangled easily with most conditioners but I like it as a leave-in because it's so light and doesn't make my hair heavy and greasy like so many leavin-ins with oils and butters tend to do.

I'd suggest using a much smaller amount and see if that helps?

Love it! Awesome for my fine, thinish 3b curls! Didn't know how to use it at first, but kept coming back to it, hoping for its elusive fab results...now, it's my HG leave in:) I have yet to find a LI that is so simple, yet sooo effective. All other "non-water based" leave ins pale in comparison, (they tend to be aloe based instead and my hair hates aloe left in:( ), so I must say I'm in love with it!!!

On the other hand, some low porosity curlies haven't had such great luck with kckt, but better luck with aloe or water based leave ins...hope this helps!

I tend to like products with moisturizing oils and butters like shea butter, KCKT doesn't have this stuff, but I still love it! :) It works really well for me, it's light, helps styling, smells fantastic, and my hair just seems to love the stuff. Also love the fact that is is humectant free.

Maybe you could use a smaller amount of KCKT :)

Not moisturizing enough for my hair. May be a porosity thing?? My hair never tangles unless I use an ingredient it doesn't like.

It was one of the first things I got after discovering this site and I still use it almost daily! It's light enough that my hair doesn't get weighed down but provides a nice base layer for products.

It doesn't seem to be working well for me, and I'm trying to identify what the problem is. When I use it, my hair is very weighed down, and I only use a tiny bit (and then rinse most of that out). I'm low porosity, so that could be an issue, or maybe there's a problem ingredient. I'm also still fairly new at all of this, so maybe I'm doing something wrong? Could others say how much you use and how you apply it?

I use the KCCC on 50% dry hair. I do all my other stuff, plop, then put it in, then diffuse. Thats been the best results for me on the KCCC.

Hmm, I have the WORST time with tangles, but the KCKT helped the tangles when I used it. However I did use it with my SM smoothie, and maybe (judging from responses) they do not play well. Hmmm. I think I also maybe used too much.
So I have KCCC and SM SMoothie, so maybe I'll try the KCKT with just the KCCC today and see what happens.

Does anyone know how long home made FSG lasts with just the gel, no preservatives? in the fridge? I thought at first maybe mine was bad, I think its 2-3 weeks old. I left it out Sat and Sun and the hair was still bad. angry9:

Nothing works for everyone, no matter what anyone might tell you. It may need tweaking, or it just might not be a good fit.

I use about 1/4 to 1/3 bottle at a time, but I'm coarse and porous. I never get weighed down.

I don't think it's too heavy for you because I see that you use SM products. I use a lot of really rich products, but don't use the SM products because they are too "heavy" for me--if you can understand the difference.

Some products just aren't for some hair. If you get great hair from other things, that's all that matters.

Kathymack, I agree. I can't imagine how KCKT could be too heavy for me, given the products I typically use. I just wish I knew why KCKT ruins my curls! When I use it, everything goes totally flat! This is the only product that does this. So weird.

Hmmm well it sounds like you and HoC have given it enough of a chance. Kick it to the curb, I say. (If only you could kick it onto my curb, LOL :evil2:.) What works for some might not work for all. It isn't your fault, it's the knot today's. Might be the semi-high PH (7) of the product? That made my brow pucker but my hair seems to like it so . . .

Ugh, wouldn't you know, I told my husband to give it a try. You know those people who do conditioner only styling? Yeah, his curls were beautiful, shiny and full (he's thinning in the top so the full part is key). He's in love with it, while for me.....ick. I'm thinking summer when I might need it for more humid climates? Maybe it will do more for me?

Ok, I found a use for my kckt. I discovered that when my hair dries and I have that nasty halo frizz, or whatever, if I smooth kckt over it, it smoothes it all down and really pretties my hair up, I'll try to get some pics.

KCKT doesn't have that large an ingredient list -- perhaps you can isolate something that's in there but not in your other products?

Me, I love the stuff. Oddly, I don't like KCCC -- it gives me weird gumminess and frizz. These things can be unpredictable!

You know the funny thing about KCKT. My hair used to love this stuff. I would hoard it. Fight with my sister whenever she would use my stash of it. I stopped using it for about 4 months to try out other leave ins. And I revisited it about 3 weeks ago, and it made my hair so tangled and ratty and I had absolutely no moisture.

I used to live for this stuff. It was the best detangler ever for me, but the thrill is gone.

There was a thread awhile back about leave-ins with slip verses those with 'stick'. I've been lurking and reading through lots of back posts for 2 months so I'm not sure when/where it was posted but the gist was that less slip is better for looser/wavy curl patterns. Since KCKT, the new shea moisture leave-in and the 4naturals wavy serum all cause my hair to go limp and straight unless I use minuscule amounts I assumed this was the issue. There were a few 'sticky' leave-ins mentioned so I started using GDLI and like it much better.

I'll try and find the post and edit with a link if I find it again. :glasses8:

Okay, found this post with links to the thread I originally read and a blog too! I'm off to read some more. :drunken:

Interesting. I remember those threads. I don't seem to fit the mold since I'm more of a wavy, and I don't tangle, but I prefer the slippy ones. The grabby ones tend to leave me limp. My hair is a little on the fine side -- don't know if that would be a factor or not!

Ooooh it's my favorite paired w/ the KCKT. My hair is jawlength bob & I only use about a quarter sized amount & try to mainly focus on the outer portion of my hair (not so much into the roots). Immediately follow w/ KCCC (like a big gumball size) :) :)
