I used the light brown last weekend. Hair felt normal afterwards. No dryness or breakage.

I did a henna conditioning treatment (where you mix it with conditioner and let it sit for like an hour) late October ish. That's it.

I tried the light brown this past weekend I mixed in my usual no gray additive and got great gray coverage! My mom colors my roots for me and she thought the mixture was thinner and took a heavier coverage than my normal colorsilk. But overall I do really like the shea moisture hair color!

Looks nice like the color. Not sure if this is a dumb question but does it contain any silicones or ingredients that would require me to use a sulfate shampoo after to remove or can I keep on with my CG routine? Also where can I buy it? Target is suppose to carry it but I haven't seen it in the store it doesn't even show on the site.

I'm unsure of the ingredients in the actual dye, but they do include some of the SM products in the kit, and those are CG. One reviewer I know of definitely washed with the SM shampoo after using their color.

That a nice extra. Does anyone know if one box will be enough or do you need two? I have bsl hair maybe a little pass since it's growing and I always needed 2 packages of whatever dye I'm using just to cover my whole head, would it be the same with this? And has anyone used it over already dyed hair, does the color saturate well?

    Hey you guys :)
So I want to dye my hair jet black and I have two strips of brown. They used to be blonde(bleach) and after about 3-4 months, I did henna and indigo dye on top. I want to try the shea moisture hair dye in black but I'm scared my hair will break off cause the bleach still didnt completely grow out. You guys think it is safe enough to try?

I guess Im the only one underwhelemd by this. I've seen these same results for less from people who henna, just enhance their color with natural lightening and herbs, or the old "koolaide" hair dye trick. I cant justify 14.99 for this. I hope it works well for others though!

What henna did you use, pure body art quality or a henna dye/ lower quality product with other additives? You could run strand tests on shed hair.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG. Past bra strap length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut/ Elvive Volume Collagen

Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Au Naturale styling gelee
Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.

I've been thinking about trying it as well. I live in the metro Atlanta area and have seen it at my local Super Target. Can't wait to see the results!

I used pure body art quality and I definitely plan on doing a strand test. Shea moisture said using their dye over henna might make the color patchy but I'm hoping that's not the case since its been a year since I've henna'd.

Idk if this is too late, but a month ago I died my hair with the SM- auburn. The color came out good. I was so surprised because it was the first non-black dye that actually dyed my hair. I hadn't died it before the SM in about a year. I also had low porosity hair, so I didn't think it was going to work. I got mine at a local Target for $14.99.

I just dyed my hair with the walnut brown color... Wow! I've been dying my own hair for 20+ years and have never felt this mislead by a color. My roots are ORANGE! I was going for a natural brown color, not Bozo the Clown. Not a fan of re-dying so soon, but I'm going back to the store in the morning to cover this mess up.

Oh...I'm still so mad. To answer the gray coverage...if you have a lot, please don't use. I think that was my mistake. Normally my gray has a nice highlighted look when a I dye it...a little lighter, maybe a hair different in color. Like I said before...it's orange. I'm not exaggerating either. Did I mention I'm getting married in 4 months? Thought I'd do something special...get a "moisturizing" hair dye. So, it does have that going for it, but don't trust a brand with a painting of the hair color on the box instead of a real picture.... just saying.

I don't hear the name of color. I always dye my hair with dark brown and blonde highlight.

Next time run strand tests, don't rely on box pictures real or painted because every head of hair is different. Also you can suffer an allergic reaction at any time, even to products you have used for years, so strand tests can double up as patch tests.

You can dye over with a semi permanent which is non damaging. If the product is ammonia free then it is particularly susceptible to temperature fluctuations be that from the head or the room, even application is important, sometimes doing the roots last as salon colourists do, keeping the head evenly warm.
