Need help hair typing 2B, 2C, or 3A?

MCoons91MCoons91 Posts: 70Registered Users
I'm going to try and post these pics. I hope they work. 2B, 2C, or 3A? I'm pretty new to this. Also, my hair is pretty damaged from dying and I just found out about the CG method which I plan to start this weekend. I have been using products with high sulfate, silicone, and alcohol content. Thanks!

(I do need to trim my ends, they often straighten out when they are damaged/dead)
Mostly 2B with 2C elements and quite a few random 3A corkscrews in my underneath layer. Re-tested my hair porosity and it is now low. I have fairly dense, medium thick hair.

Use: Shea Moisture Raw shampoo and conditioner, co-wash w/ suave naturals coconut, aussie ausome volume mousse and Herbal essence totally twisted gel.

I would say 2a/b but I'm not the best at typing. Also you mentioned it was damaged and you just started the CG method, so that might change. I'm also just giving you a heads up ahead of time that someone will probably tell you that knowing your hair properties is more important (I agree) but I think figuring out your hair type is a good starting point :)

Thanks, I was a bit confused with the typing descriptions and the pictures placed with them. Also I do know my other properties. I have high porosity, high density, and coarse hair. It actually takes alot to tame my hair and gets dried out super easy. I probably should have mentioned all that. Lol

Lol that's ok. I think sometimes we need people to see our hair to get better feedback. High porosity and coarse? That sounds like a balancing nightmare to me! Your hair looks really pretty btw :) I wouldn't have even know it was damaged if you hadn't said so.

Thank you! Oh and it IS a nightmare..I can't tell you how many salons I've been too, products I've tried, haircuts, etc. My stylists are always complaining about how dry it is. But the pictures I posted were actually from yesturday which was when I decided to try a sulfate free product for the first time. I tried the wen product line (although its not completely silicone or alcohol free). I tried the cleanser and I also applied the organix brazilian keratin deep conditioning treatment. So my hair did look pretty good after that. I think that proves that an overhaul of all my hair products will make my hair much healthier.

I agree! My sis in law uses wen. It's too expensive for my taste but I'm glad it's working for you! Keep the updates coming. Also you reminded me I need to update my siggy to include products/techniques lol

Yeah it is expensive. A friend told me about it so I borrowed hers. For my own products, I think I'm gonna try the kinky curly line and see how that does. I've read good things about it.

Its been a slow transition, but I have completely switched to the cg method. I started trying different products (wen) a few days ago. Today I used my sulfate shampoo for the last time, kinky curly knot today, and herbel essence's twist up gel. Heres my before and after pic. The after pic I took today.

Your curl/wave pattern looks so much like mine! I consider myself 2a. But I have fine, high porosity, med density hair! Your hair is looking good!

I would've said 2B because the waves look more like s-es. Love the side bangs. Be careful though. Wen has amodimethicone. It's not a big deal since it washes out with most low poos. I used Wen for five years before I went CG. It's an excellent product but I think overall it did make my hair more wavy, less curly.

Yeah I was thinking more 2b too. Especially since I started the cg method two days ago, my waves are bouncing back. I am now off the wen. I posted a pic in another forum of the products I now use and I also posted a progress pic in this thread. Thanks I actually straighten my bangs lol..I probably shouldn't but they curl weird.

Ok so this will be my last progress pic for a while. I've been doing the cg method for a few days now. Also, in my last pictures my bangs were flat ironed in evey pic. In case that was throwing anyone helping me type my curl pattern. lol. Thanks again ya'll!

Looks very silky. Also, you can get side bangs without flat ironing too. Here's what I do. It's a bit of process. I part my hair down the middle. (I part it it when I'm showering, mid-way when my hair is full of conditioner and I'm gently detangling with my wide toothed comb.) Then I rinse out, style, go about my day-or night. Once it's fully dry or the next day (I find this works better with next day hair) I carefully, with my fingers switch the part. I take those curls and sweep them over to the side of my face. I rake them a bit with fingers and stretch lightly. Then I secure them with a bobby pin which looks invisible because I place it upside down and inside the hair. Then I add a bit of styling/smoothing product for hold. Voila! Side bangs. Not so curly anymore since I stretched them.
