foggy, humid day = GREAT hair. Why?

DarbyDarby Posts: 1,025Registered Users
So my hair LOVES humidity. Never frizzes. I just get a GREAT curly hair day. So why? And how can I get this type of hair when it's dry out? Even my husband commented and said, "what did you do to your hair toay? It's so curly." ha, ha.... HUMIDITY outside :)
But when it's dry out, I get limpy curls.
I just got the curly girl book (yeah, I'm a bit late). My stylist keeps telling me to get a copy and I finally did. Some of the stuff I can't do like drench it in conditioner. I'd get oily looking hair. Unless I"m using the wrong condish.
I've tried the deva low poos and no poos and hated them. My hair felt coated and gooey after a while and my scalp itched like mad.

Your hair likes moisture! Try maybe using more humectant products. Also, use moisturizing conditioners that don't contain oils, such as gvp balm. My hair tends to like those kinds of conditioners, as well as protein conditioners, way better than oil rich conditioners. I love oils, but as pre-treatments and sealants, not in a rinse out conditioner. My hair also generally reacts well to humidity, it's also much more curly.

I could never use the copious amounts of product they use in the CG book, either. However, the DVD really helps you with how to "handle" your hair.

My hair if fine/low porosity. Our dewpoint was -6 this week. I use a minute amount of most products, but when it's that dry--I use a DT as my leave in. If the air doesn't have the moisture, you need to supply it to your hair.

thanks!! My hair hates products with alot of oils. I tried an oil dt one time and what a mess!!! I had to do many, many washings with a harsh shampoo to get it out. I was still a horrible greasy mess for two days. I had to just wait for my hair to soak it in. I wore a hat for those days.
I will check into that condish. And can you list some products that are high humectants?? I will check too.

My hair doesn't care for straight oils/butters, but does like them in well formulated products. Some of the DTs I've used this week are CK Curlycue ReNew, CJ Curl Rehab and a few from Marie Dean.

I find its a lot easier to have curly hair when it's humid because my straight hair just curls and starts to act crazy! My hair looks and feels the exact same way in the summer and humidity as it does in the winter, I don't even have to switch my products or routine.

Does anybody else notice that if they work up a light sweat maybe from exercising or cleaning the apartment or even running errands or something their hair gets super curly? I also notice a big difference when there is rain out since I get precious little where I live. All of the sudden the dew point is decent and my hair has some extra bounce. But I get the same effect when I sweat. It's almost a shame to have to take a shower afterwards. :laughing5:

yes, my hair also gets curlier when I sweat and when I first get out of the shower and not washed my hair - having it in a shower cap. With all the humidity in the bathroom, my hair starts to curl up nicely

I'm genuinely happy for all you folks. For me, humidity is a little less destructive than a violent encounter with cyclonic winds.
