I'm cool with having 2,3,and 4, but without the subtypes the way the 2 board is right now.

Yep, consolidate. I think other categories could be consolidated too. We have way too many forums to wade through now.

Yes, there are too many forums. The search function works. We don't need a forum for every tiny detail. Do the work and search. :)

This would be cool. Texture is the most important hair property, IMO.

I wish we had a sticky thread in the general hair forum - "what's my hair type." Like in the 4a forum. You go in, post a pic, get an answer, & be done with it. I totally get curl type is a fun tidbit to know but I'm tired of the 15 new "what's my type???" threads per day.
 fine, thin, normal/(low?) porosity. Mod-CG. Usually I can't co-wash more than 1x a week, & sometimes I have to use T-Gel in rotation due to scalp issues.

I totally agree. Texture is the most important thing. Not sure why we have the porosity forums, they get very little action, IMHO.

I rarely, if ever, answer the "what's my type questions." Maybe to say that hair properties are more important and give them a link for that. If people would stop answering, maybe folks would stop asking. As a behaviorist, it's always taught that you don't reward "inappropriate" behavior, LOL!

I also wish people would use the search function. For a while, we'd tell posters that there was a current thread on the subject and give the link. I digress from the topic--sorry.

Hey y'all! Looks like we have a consensus! I've talked to the active guides just to run through any potential moderation issues and it looks like everything is a go.

We're still chatting it out, but overall, it's obvious that consolidated hair types are what The People desire!

I can do this over the weekend. :toothy10: bear with me por favor, we're dealing with some major tech issues...

I voted for consolidation. I would also like to see the number of forums consolidated or deleted altogether. I only visit a few and I bet there are some that see very little action as it is!
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves

i agree that there are forums that most likely most of us never visit and those should be deleted/consolidated.
however, i think texture is the most important factor in dealing with our hair and i think it would be a positive to add forums for each of the textures.

I am new to this forum ad agree to consolidate, there is too much to wade through for a newbie.
But the search function does not work for me at all! It always takes me to "Timbuktu " when I want to go to "New york" :-) , so I can understand when someone posts a new thread because they could not find an existing one.
I did learn a lot here though and do think this forum is invaluable !

Yay! I'm looking forward to the change.

And forums for different textures would be really helpful as well, but I guess enough people have to want that, too.

I'm newly registered but an avid reader here.

I agree on the texture forums. Hair type is helpful for nothing but superficial matters like styling and some technique. All those threads give importance to the very thing that matters the least...texture should be highlighted instead.

Here's my suggestion. It would take us from 31 to 18 hair forums.

General Discussion (would absorb Hall of Shame, Shampoo Free, Growing Out, Celebs). I feel that most of the absorbed forums are already discussed in Gen Hair, and none of them are so high traffic as to not be handled by Gen Hair.

    Salon/Stylist Chatter

    Transitioning

    Readers Product Reviews

    Coloring

Health Related (would absorb Thin/Thinning as there is a fair amount of overlap).

Straightening/Relaxing (would absorb Keratin Services). My personal preference is to get rid of straightening altogether. I feel it has no function on a site for supporting curly hair. But, I don't think that will fly, so we could at least combine the two straightening forums.

All Natural (would absorb Recipes for Hair and Body due to overlap).

    Parents of Curlies

    Curly Men

    Curly Teens

    Over 40

    Locs

    2

    3 (combine a,b, and c).

    4 (combine a and b).

    Porosity (combine porosity types)

    Texture

The protein forums would be handled in texture and porosity. They wouldn't need their own forums.

Having separate forums for each porosity and texture type would be cumbersome, IMO. At some point the poster has to do some reading and searching on her own.
