Deva Cuts??? Before/After

I'm finally getting my first curly/dry haircut this Thursday. I'm excited but at the same time nervous since I don't want to get a bad cut. My stylist is suppose to be a deva cut specialist. Has anyone gotten a haircut using this method? How was your experience and if you can share before/after pics? I would like to get an idea of what I'm getting myself into LOL thanks :)

i don't have any before pics since i've been getting a deva cut (and, i have to say, by one of the best deva stylists, he used to work at devachan and do training) since 2006. my photo is a deva cut, i do keep my hair on the short side by preference, but the idea is there.

also, you can go onto livecurlylivefree.com and click on the 'photo gallery' as the woman whose site it is, tiffany, aka 'struttswife' on nc, is a curly stylist who specializes in deva cuts. she has before and after photos.

and, it all depends on the stylist who cuts your hair. just because they've been taught how to cut a curl, does not translate into how to cut the entire head, etc.....

and, wasn't there a thread recently by a stylist who said deva is changing how they cut hair? no longer curl by curl? but she never replied to queries about what they specified instead.

    Me, before Deva cut:

    Me, after Deva cut:

This pic was after I got it cut by the owner--

    uploadfromtaptalk1358972085615.jpg

This pic below was over a year later, by another staffer at the same salon. I liked this better and plan to go see her again if I can ever get some money.

    uploadfromtaptalk1358972184016.jpg

Most recent pic below, after cowashing and airdrying at my parent's house with their EXTREMELY hard water....so the curls are very tight and lots of root volume.

I had not gotten it cut any more since the pic above it.

I was surprised to see how much of the original layering/shaping was still evident in this pic.....compared with the one above it.

I posted my before/after pictures as a separate thread.

I am so happy with the results and I will never get a normal haircut again. This is the first stylist that hasn't cut off too much hair. It has been about 3 weeks and it is growing out beautifully.

Tnx for the luck I think it worked lol...finally got my cut and I loved it my hair is shaped without the pyramid effect. My stylist was super nice and gave me tips on how to style my hair. I definitely learned new things they do try and sell you the deva products but you don't feel obligated to buy them which I liked. I would like to try them in the future tho they smell great and left my hair soft. I definitely think my hair got a little bouncier since all the dry ends were cut off. Next time I need a cut I know where I'm going n will recommend him to anyone in the Dade/Broward area who's looking for a devacut. Big plus he's been doing it since 06 n was the first to train in that method in SFL.

It is a lil pricey but I feel like you won't need another one anytime soon at least I know I won't lol best part for me is that it gives your hair shape with your curls. Can't wait to see how it'll hold up tomorrow crossing my fingers.

How much did it cost, if you don't mind my asking? I happen to live close to a deva salon but the reviews on yelp weren't so good. Also I'm not due for a hair cut for ages as I only go every 6 months but I wouldn't mind getting mine reshaped. Your hair already looked great before but I can see the difference. And yes let us know how the self styling goes.

except for the devachan salons, i am sure cost varies greatly from location to location, cost of living sure does!!!! you can call you salon and ask what they charge for a deva cut.

Well I styled it today for the first time after the haircut on my own. It turned out pretty ok. The only thing I did notice is it was a lot less dry when I got it done I don't know if it was the deva products or just something I did different. I have to work on that. I think I am gonna try grapeseed oil (I think that what it is lol) to seal the moisture in since I heard it doesn't get absorbed in the hair and that should prevent it from drying up.

Here are some pics with it still wet

Very nice!! Your curl pattern looks a lot like mine - except that yours is even all over. (And lovely!) Mine is loser in front and sort of on top. (My devacut didn't help that, but I'm tempted to try again.)

Glad it worked for you! Do you like it well enough to get another devacut next time?

I can go up to 6 or 8 months or even a year without a haircut and be okay because my ends are resilient. They don't split, they just get a little dry. But even then they don't thin out and look too straggly. So I was going to wait until summer for my next haircut but seeing this has made me think "maybe spring". Besides when you wear your hair straight the cut doesn't matter as much. Now however, the layers that looked so edgy and slick straight look sort of short in comparison to the others due to curl shrinkage. It's annoying because it's hard to reach that area and distribute product. So if I'm going to wear my hair curly, might as well get a dry cut. My only concern is the uneven layers. What if I ever wanted to wear it straight again? Would it look too noticeable? Anybody have anything to share on the subject?

Thanks rbb I think it feels more dry than it looks in pictures...I wonder if it could be a product I'm using this happened last time too. I've heard great reviews and how it was good for DT. Next time I will try without it and see if that helps and I'm still having a hard time controlling my frizz any advice on good products for this?
