What is BB cream?

All the ads on TV for facial creams now reference BB cream. What is it? Do you use it?

My opinion: it's a cross between moisturizer and foundation, and it usually contains SPF as well, and it's supposed to make your skin healthier over time (although I don't believe this last part).

I use it. I like it because I only want enough color to even out my complexion a bit (so not a full foundation) but a regular tinted moisturizer just ends up making me feel kinda greasy. I've been using Dr. Jart Black Label Detox BB Cream (or something like that). It's good for daily wear for me, although I still get too oily over the day.

I recently bought Garnier BB cream at the drugstore on a whim. I'm wearing it today, under some translucent pressed powder. So far so good.

    a waste of money!

they don't have enough sunscreen and at this age, i need way more coverage than they give to my skin. i'll stick with sunscreen/moisturizer and foundation separately.

eta. also too dark and pink for my very fair skin. Who, i tried a sample of the Garnier and found it chalky; how are you finding it?

the L'Oreal Youth Code BB was better for me, but still not enough coverage...

It's supposed to be sunscreen, moisturizer, skin perfector in one. BB stands for beauty balm. Some have no tint and some do. I know they're huge in South Korea.

I use this organic stuff from Mojo Spa which is essentially a bb cream. I love it. It's so light and all I use unless I'm going to work. Then I dust some powder over.

But just the makeup itself spreads easily doesn't sit on your skin, but moisturizes and brightens your skin. I have really dry skin so it helps.

I've never had problems with my skin acne wise but I do think the color is evening out.

I've also used the maybelline which I didn't like and the garnier. My mom uses it and I tried it over Christmas. It works well it's just too heavy for me.

The Garnier was the perfect texture and coverage for me but it was just a little too dark and sunscreen makes me break out TERRIBLY.

I'd like to try others but they're all loaded with the damn sunscreen and I'm not breaking out for SPF 15.

It looks like a waste of time with good marketing. The SPF is too low for me anyway.

I'm not loving the Garnier. Almost too much like regular foundation actually...maybe chalky is kind of the right word, but not exactly. I feel like I can see it when I look close at my skin, and I like it to blend in so my face looks just like a better version of "bare skin".

I have no issues with the low SPF. I would wear more substantial sunblock if I was going to be outside for an extended time (especially in warmer weather), but for my indoors-all-day office job, I feel like any SPF is enough for the daily grind.

CGNYC, I've been using the Maybelline one and I love it! No sunscreen and super cheap. There aren't a lot of shade choices but I find that it blends well enough and is sheer enough that it doesn't have to be a perfect match. I've been wearing it everyday for months, which is saying a lot, because I'm not a makeup person, let alone a foundation person. Like Who Me?, though, I'm not convinced it's making my skin better. But I like the amount of coverage and how it feels and looks.

Another vote for Dr. Jart. Not having been able to find a BB cream that I liked at all locally, I saw a sample kit for Dr. Jart with 4 or 5 different varieties for about $35 on the Sephora site. I ordered it and so far have used only the Premium one in the gold tube with SPF 45- that's not enough for those of you who mentioned it?? I'm fair skinned and it's just right for me. I actually quite like it. It's a good-sized tube, so I've been using it for at least 2 months, but it's just about gone. Then I'll move on to one of the other varieties and try them all.

It gives a surprising amount of coverage - enough that I use no concealer except undereye, I just follow with a quick application of Illuminare liquid mineral foundation. It doesn't make me any oilier than usual, doesn't break me out - just a much better product than those I'd previously tried . . . .

I love the Stila HD 10 in 1 beauty balm. There isn't as much coverage as some others that I've tried so I layer it under either my foundation powder or my tinted moisturizer, but it makes my skin super glowy and makes my makeup stay on longer.

I tried the Dr. Jart because people had been raving about it and it literally made me look like I was putting on corpse makeup. I was grey - no matter how much I blended. I actually had to wash it off and start over with my Stila.
I haven't got the slightest idea how to change people, but I still keep a long list of prospective candidates just in case I should ever figure it out.

I don't know if all varieties are about the same shade, but I can certainly see how the Premium one wouldn't be the right color for lots of people. It happens to work well for me.

I think BB creams are just hype. I'll take a pass on cheap pore-cloggers. Ick...

Since I am older than rou, I probably need more coverage than these would give me too. Don't think I will spend my money on any.

It's been a nice little time saver for me and hasn't clogged my pores at all - and I'm at least as old as Rou . . . however, those comments fully apply to the drugstore brands I'd previously tried.

This is a timely post as I was just checking them out. I tried Garnier and it was greasy even on my dry skin and too dark on my fair skin. I want to buy into the hype but think I'll stick with tinted moisturizer instead although I like a bit more coverage.

Maybelline was one of the ones I hated - too shiny, tacky feeling, would've clogged my pores if I'd given it the chance to stay on long enough, LOL

Ugh, the Maybelline one was gross. It was like a greasier version of tinted moisturizer and it made me break out.

I was going to try the Stila one until I got a free sample from Smashbox. Their second shade is the perfect color for me and has just the right amount of coverage for non-office days. During the week I use a little regular foundation on the areas that need a little more coverage and follow with pressed powder.

Just bought Dior's BB cream recommended by a trusted Sephora person. Love it. I don't need lots of coverage and this has just enough plus it dries to a nice smooth non tacky finish. And it is a tube w a pump dispenser. Love that

Oh no! Sorry to hear that so many of you hated the Maybelline BB! I haven't had any bad results at all, but if there are better ones on the market I'm tempted to try them...

I didn't like Dr jart. Made me break out. I use the Garnier one on non work days, I don't love it but don't hate it either. I have really dry skin and the Garnier one without moisturizer works out okay if I put it on and let in soak in. I am open to trying others, and am certain I will, the product junkie that I am.

I use Too Faced BB. I like it. It gives my skin a soft glow. It is just SPF 10 or 15 so I use a separate SPF 30 under it. I also sometimes just mix it with my SPF 30 if I'm in a hurry which would be most mornings. I'm too make-up challenged to use foundation.

LOL, I couldn't stand the Garnier - everybody's skin is different. I may hate the other Dr Jart's when I try those samples, but I like the gold tubed-one I've been trying :dontknow:

I use the Garnier in the light/medium shade. I also have the dark shade that I put on as a bronzer look. I use this instead of foundation or my mineral powder now. I use it at night when my SO stays over. I'm sure there are some better ones out there, but Garnier is inexpensive and I can pick it up anytime at the drugstore.

Not BB, but I love using the "air brushed legs" product on my face and neck. It gives me a tanned look and I can use it without make-up.

Interesting! I bet it does give a good, tanned look and a bit of coverage. It doesn't break you out or anything? I'd be afraid it might not be non-comedogenic, not being formulated for the face.

I have a couple of different brands. I don't like makeup of any kind but I thought this would feel more like a moisturizer. It feels like regular ole makeup to me so I don't use it. I use regular sunscreen and lip gloss and that's it and my pores thank me for it.

I've read fantastic things about Dr Jart so was very disappointed - the one I have is the water fuse in the blue tube. I would certainly try the others as I have sensitive skin and it could be one tiny thing that makes my face unhappy (I love the way it looks ON my skin)

i didn't know what bb creams were either. right now i'm in such a good place with my colorescience chocolate mouse primer and meow cosmetics foundation i'm too scared to change a thing! i started blending meow shades for the subtle changes my skin makes through the seasons and i started adding a little tumeric grains for anti-inflammatory benefits and to bring out the yellow undertones in my skin. ironically mac concealers still are working great for me but i need them far less now. i'm in skin coverage nirvana....but at least i learned something about bb creams ;)

Glorified tinted moisturizer. I'd skip it unless you like tinted moisturizers (bb creams tend to have just a *touch* more coverage). Also most of them, especially the Asian ones, not sure about drugstore ones, have a limited shade range, that are mostly warm toned and some are even a tinge grayish. If you're like me though, and most TMs here are too link/orange, they can be a great option.

i saw the mac line of bb creams tonight. i'll for sure pass. they looked really rich and like a breakout waiting to happen (for me). i'd love to go foundation-less. i'm getting there but bb creams aren't the answer for me.
