Kindle questions

Can I buy books on-line for a Kindle that has been shipped but not yet received or do I have to wait for the Kindle to arrive?

If I can buy them now, how do I load them onto the Kindle once it arrives?

Do you have to buy through the Kindle once you have it?

I believe you have to sync and/or register your Kindle via your computer, so that would mean you should probably wait. However, I'm a Nook and a Tablet user, so I may be wrong.

Call your library ---- they'd know, since they often help patrons learn how to use ereaders.

I have no idea, I never bought them before hand.

    hmmmm

I think it would probably need to be synced after you get it. Or if you have the amazon cloud they'll just be in there for when you're ready.

OR if you have a kindle app on your phone or computer, again they'll be in your amazon account and once you register it should go to your kindle. OMG

^that's correct. I can't believed I worked the answer out of my complicated brain.

Thanks! I couldn't find the answers anywhere so I just started to buy a book and it told me if I didn't have my kindle with me to choose to transfer it to my computer and then I could upload it to my kindle later.

    Huh!

Well, if I ever crack and buy a Kindle, now I'll know that.

    Glad you found your answer.

I can send you to a great site that has free Kindle books. Some of them are not, but for the most part are. I get updates to my email on a daily basis.

Wait, what?! I want in on this action! I've had a some sort of kindle for like years and years and didn't know about this? That sucks.

Could you please be sharing, caring?

For how my library does it, you have to get the book through the library's site, which then takes you to amazon. Some books can go directly on the kindle remotely, but some of them you have to connect to the computer via usb and transfer it like that.

    You guys are awesome! Thanks!

I cannot currently use the library function because I forgot to take a DVD back to the library and it now costs $250 to replace it. It'll have to come out of the taxes coming to me from my state taxes, because I refuse to actually pay $250 for a DVD I forgot to take back, then when I found out I still had it, they wouldn't take it back, saying the process had already begun to replace it. Yes folks, that's right...I now own the most expensive DVD ever.

My Kindle arrived yesterday!! YAY!! I got it setup and the first thing I bought (free!) was Pride and Prejudice. I also got everything else by Jane Austen that was free. Sense and Sensibility was not free, so I will wait a bit on that - yes, it's only .99 BUT I promised myself that if I spent the money on the Kindle, the cover, and a AC adapter, I wouldn't spent any more $ on it for at least 1 month. I then got Les Miserables (sp?), which I have never read but want to. I will also get a ton of my favorite books like Treasure Island, Great Expectations, Jane Eyre, etc.

I imagine the first newer book I'll cave and buy will be The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest because I lost my printed version (I have issues.....) but it was free because a friend who bought it and didn't like it gave it to me.

Thanks for all the help and the suggested websites; I will be checking them out! I love to read and I love to be frugal :hello1:

I can't wait for the snazzy red cover to arrive....l am lugging it around in my knitting bag/purse in its box right now :tongue10:

Yeah, I kinda stopped listening after administrative costs, collection fees, court fees (because the court MUST be notified of an unreturned DVD and serve me papers saying I must replace it's cost along with this big laundry list of other charges.

And it wasn't even a good movie! Meaning, this movie is so pimp I'm just gonna keep it. I wouldn't even have purchased it normally! The movie for those of you curious...it was Casanova. My shame is now complete!

sunshine - you should right a little story about the movie and what all it's cost you and sell it on ebay with the story in the description. I saw a guy sell his x-wife's wedding dress for thousands of dollars because he told about what a great dress it was and how horrible she was and that the dress deserved a good woman. Maybe you could recoup your losses :glasses2:

When I took my morning break to go lay on my yoga mat with my foot in the air, I got to read on my new Kindle :love7:

I think Kindles should come with an adapter; why don't they? It seems like nickel and diming.
Sunshine, that is one punitive library system you've got. They should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I agree! I didn't buy one from Amazon. I got one for $6 on ebay with free shipping. I was not going to pay $20 for it. When you start to checkout without one, a popup offers you one for $9.99 - only with purchase of kindle. I declined and got mine off ebay from US seller that does accept returns should it not work.

Silly cover is still mucking about in Iowa. Why has it been in Iowa for 3 days in the USPS? WHY???

Really? They don't come with adapters, anymore? That stinks. Mine did. I got it around 2 years ago.

I read that they no longer came with the adapter. I use the one that came with my old kindle.

I don't have a kindle but I have the app. I buy books for kindle on it. Once you get the kindle, it'll automatically sync with amazon and put the books you bought on it.

Mine came with only a USB cord or whatever you use to charge it with a computer or download from computer. I bought an AC adapter that will allow me to plug the USB into a wall outlet. I think that it should have been included so I refused to buy it from Amazon & got mine off ebay for much less.
