I am thinking about getting a pair of Uggs to wear as travel shoes on an upcoming trip that will involve a long flight and lots of car time. My sister and her daughters each have a pair and swear by them for being comfy.

Anyway, my question is regarding cleaning and keeping them clean. Are they hard to keep clean? Did you buy the spray stuff and brush thing? How often do you clean yours compared to how much you wear them.

Thanks!

I found them very warm and comfortable, and I cleaned them a lot. I like clean boots/shoes, though.

They will not be waterproof, and you will be uncertain on slippery surfaces if you go with the classic flat sole. You can waterproof them with spray, but you do not need their special spray. I think I got mine at Target. (I already had a suede brush and cleaner.)

I see you in gold or purple sequin styles.

I will be going with the bailey button in sand.

I don't know that I would be wearing them around hiking, mostly just for the traveling portion and maybe dinners, etc. My out and about shoes would be my sneakers.

I had the Bailey Button in lavender. I wore them until ruined (which happened too soon for the price, imo).

Beware! Some dogs love big buttons on shoes or boots or sweaters.

I have moonboot silver sequins, They are comfy but I'm scared the sequins will fall off so I only wear them to the store and if I'm not walking outside a lot or to the movies, where I'm not walking and doing things that don't involve running or a lot of walking.

I also have the sweater kind, DO NOT BUY THEM.
They will wear out and get really loose, which makes them hard to walk in. When I wear them you can hear me coming miles away I sound like a child wearing their mom/dad's shoes.

I don't own any but I just walked by a big dry cleaning chain here (Swann) yesterday and there was a sign in the window saying, "We clean Uggs."

Check to see if dry cleaners in your area do also?

  • gekko422gekko422 Posts: 4,869Registered Users
Oh, that's cool, it wouldn't have occurred to me at all to have them cleaned by a dry cleaners!!

Yes, dry cleaners here clean them, too, so I'm sure they do in CA. I'd go try them on first if you can - my concern would be that they're so flat there isn't that much arch support for walking but I have terrible feet so maybe it wouldn't matter for you.
I haven't got the slightest idea how to change people, but I still keep a long list of prospective candidates just in case I should ever figure it out.

if you haven't tried them on, you have to go down a size.

Because your size will be too big, but the sales people will usually tell you that.

I second going a size down. You'll probably regret it if you don't. I order mine so I don't have the option of trying them on...too lazy to shop at stores nowadays. Anyway, my daughters and I all have several pair of uggs. Love them. Very comfortable. My daughter's first pair wore out after a year, but her other pairs have lasted forever...so have mine. Mine stay clean. I haven't had a reason to clean them.

    Uggs are very comfortable. Really.

SIZE. - I own a pair in my true shoe size, and they are very comfortable. I was told, for many times, I should be going one size down . Not for me.

Now, how cold are you and how cold are the places you are visiting?

Because these boots could be also a little too warm. IMO.

The only real walking I would do in them, I would think, would be in the airport terminal and if we walked to dinner. My walking/hiking/sightseeing would be done in my sneakers.

I have owned 3 pairs and loved them all 2 beige and one black. The black lasted a lot longer as far as looking nice and staying clean. I always wear them to travel in the winter, especially in the airport. They are comfy, warm, and easy to take off and put on. If you didn't want to spend the full amount Costco's Kirkland brand look and feel exactly alike. I have a pair of tall grey Kirkland ones that I love as much as my brand name ones and are wearing just the same. I have wide feet and still go down a size. They break in quickly and if they're bigish to begin with they'll stretch out a lot.

My daughter and all her dance friends wear uggs. I think they are terribly stinky shoes. The stench of the studio when there are a dozen pairs of uggs lined up in the changing room is enough to knock a buzzard off a sh*t wagon.

Well let's see. A bunch of sweaty teenage girls putting their equally sweaty feet, undoubtedly without socks, into a pair of boots. Yeah, I think that would stink up any shoe.

You would think so. But, having spent a lot of time in dance studios the last 15 years, I didn't notice bad smells until uggs came into fashion. It's the fur that traps the stink. Adult feet are sweaty and stinky too. I guess the motto is: wear clean socks daily...and don't sweat too much.

I have the black tall moon boots and I try to spray them with the Ugg spray once a month or so. This makes them easy to keep clean. I also dont wear them when its really wet or snowy outside because I don't want to ruin them.

As for the size, its true you really do need to size down. I wear a 7 in just about every other shoe but wear a 6 in Uggs. The reason is that over time you will compress the fur that is in side and if you get your normal size they will be too big.

I wear mine a lot, either under bootcut yoga pants, or over skinny jeans and leggings. Not crazy about how they look with bootcut jeans, as the jeans kind of catch on them and then they look high water-ish. I also like the tall version because you can fold them over and make shorter boots with a furry outside.

My sister claims you can put your stinky shoes in freezer and it will kill the smell. Haven't tried it yet... I wear socks with my uggs...just so there won't be a smell. I have issues with wearing boots...without socks.

I don't wear socks and mine don't stink, and my feet can be pretty sweaty, but I knew a girl who had smelly feet OMG her's smelled like dead rotting fish. I had to work with her one time and she took her shoes off because they were making her feet stink, but her feet were already stinking by then too. :sad2:

Since this is an already existing UGG thread, I won't make another to ask the question I was going to ask: does anyone know where I can get a price break on Uggs? I have two pair that I got a few years ago, but they're both colored and I'd like a neutral pair. But alas, I am broke and don't want to pay full price. I checked Costco's website and I don't see the Kirkland ones--would they be in the store but not on the site?

Good to know. I just bought some lattice cardigan ones, they are so cute but they only had my size, not a size smaller so I know for sure they will eventually be way too big on me. They will be going back. Too bad because I love them.

I still wear mine, but they're really annoying to wear and I don't think I'd buy more of that style.

I mean if you can afford to buy more after a year, I would say keep them they won't stretch out within weeks more like 6 monthsish. And if you don't wear them often you could stretch out the stretching period. Mine are about two years old.

Sorry for your boot loss. :-|

If you buy the kids uggs it's alot cheaper. I wear a womens size 7 and got the tall kids size 5 and they are a perfect fit....and cost alot less!
