I am not well-versed in type 4 so i will leave that diagnosis to others. :) Hair properties are more important than curl pattern for selecting products, though. /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Flivecurlylivefree.com%2Fcurly%2520hair%2520basics.htm" class="Popup
remember, with all advice or suggestions for your hair, YMMV!! :read2:
    My hair:
2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
    My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
    RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
    LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)

Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.

You look like a 4b possibly a 4a of wharf washed gets extremely curly. To find the right products. You need to do a porosity test

Your hair looks like 4a because you have visible curls. 4b hair has no visible curls and can resemble a cloud. Knowing curl pattern is useful for styling but like another poster said, knowing your hair's properties determines what styling products work for you.

Judging by how shiny your hair is, your hair strands are probably fine to fine-medium and your porosity is either low or normal.

How do you figure out your texture and porosity? I did the test and my hair didn't sink. Strands in my head all feel different, some are smooth, some feel bumpy. I can't tell if my hair thick. I do know i use to process relaxers fast. I guess im a 4a only one person told me. I just want my hair to be healthy and grow. Also is it good to wear wash and goes in the winter?

I just did the porosity test on 3 strands of hair. 2 sunk after a few seconds and the other after a minute or so.

Idk about wash and gos in the winter. I have seen a lot of natural protective style in the winter months

I want to do protective styles but im too lazy, it take me all day to twist my hair. I just learn how to flat twist. I dont know how to cornroll. When i do a wash and go it last all week. I just spray it with water to fluff it out. Would that be consider protective?

Go to www.livecurlylivefree.com and pay for a hair analysis. It is worth the $20. W&Gs in the winter depend on your hair's strength and how cold it is where you live. Some 4s don't do W&Gs because their hair tangles easily, others don't have this problem. If you live in a super cold climate but love W&Gs, then buy a curl cloth or grab an old t-shirt and gently blot your hair dry. You can also use a blowdryer with a diffuser on a low speed setting and use until your hair is 80% dry.

Protective styling (PS) means your hair is protected from the elements so wearing your hair down or put is not protective. Examples of PS: buns, twists, braids.
