Hi, everyone. I'm Erika!! I stopped relaxing my hair last February. It got so bad that my hair would fall out, and there was a section in the back of head that was almost bald. Every time I looked in the mirror, I would cry. :( Since then, I have been wearing extensions and covering up what hair I had left. My hair has grown so much since then, but I'm tired of the weaves, I want to feel my own hair again. I am so scared, though, and I don't really have the support here in WA. I am half black, half filipino, and was raised in a mostly filipino household, so I never really had anyone to teach me how to do my own hair. I've seen the youtube videos of all these beautiful women with their naturally curly hair, and they have really inspired me to go natural. I'm just afraid that I don't have the confidence to pull it off. So I guess the reason I'm here is for the support. I need all the support I can get. I'm going to the salon next week to get my extensions out and cutting all my dead ends off. Does anyone have any advice for me for my big day???

It's a wonderful thing to want to have your natural hair back and having the right attitude is a great start! Wear your favourite comfy outfit so that when you're done you can see the new hair and you both together at the same time :) It'll lessen the shock a bit.

Also, I have many half filipino and black friends and they have embraced their curls recently as well so I hope you will enjoy them and learn something about your new self.

Oh and welcome to the forum! ^^

Welcome to CurlTalk, Erika! You definitely came to the right place.

Getting comfortable with your curly hair will take time and lots of trial and error -- but it's well worth the effort!

Advice for your big day: Do all your favorite things - wear your favorite clothes (like MiyoKatsune suggested) eat your favorite foods, etc. That day is gonna be all about YOU and the beginning of your awesome hair journey!

If you need help finding your way around the forum, I suggest you start here >> Start Here! - CurlTalk

Then once you do things like figure out your hair texture and curl pattern, most people usually try to create a curly hair regimen that they can try out to see what their hair likes. >> Creating a Hair Regimen and Healthy Hair Regimen for Curly Hair

Everyone's experience is different, but when I cut off my relaxed ends, I was so nervous in the beginning. Then when it was done, I looked at myself in the mirror like EVELYN WHY DIDN'T YOU DO THIS SOONER?!? lol

Sending good vibes your way! Be sure to keep us updated
