Combing Wet Hair?

Hi,

I'm 30 and have always blown my curly hair straight. I've recently started playing around with my curls (around a 2C) and had a quick question about combing.

After I shower, I lightly dry my hair with a microfiber towel, comb it with a wide-tooth comb and apply products. I feel like that may be breaking up my curls too much and leading to frizz.

What's your routine after getting out of the shower? Do you bother parting your hair or just let it fall however?

Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

After I dry my hair I use a leave in then I use my denman brush to comb through then add oils. I use combs occassionally and I find that my hair sheds alot when I use a comb

I find that if my hair isn't very wet then combing doesn't make my curls look their best. I usually comb my hair in the shower while the conditioner is in and then again after I rinse it out. When I come out of the shower I don't comb it again I just apply my leave ins, I get nice curls this way with no frizz.

This :) I'm also a 2cish and find that if I used even a wide tooth comb after I get out of the shower it just breaks the curl up too much and I lose all the definition I was striving for. I don't even comb second day hair anymore. I'm willing to run my fingers through it after I've spritzed it with water, but even then I started at the nape of my neck and only detangle the curls on top if absolutely necessary.

Personally, I cannot, I repeat, CANNOT, comb my hair once I've rinsed out conditioner. If I do, I get more frizz than curls. I've tried 'em all: Denman brush, wide tooth comb, finger combing - nope. For me, what works best is:
rinse conditioner while head is upside down.
While still standing in the shower, with head upside down, gently sway head back & forth. Scrunch styling product of choice into sopping wet hair, squishing it in an 'accordion' fashion up to the scalp. I'll do this about three times (adding a dab more product for each round of scrunching/squishing). Then I plop into a microfiber towel (anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes), remove the towel, let my curls air dry for 30 minutes or so, then quickly hit with the diffuser if it's cold out.

I hope this is helpful and not terribly confusing.;-)
Hair Type: 3A/3B; natural color; mid-back length.
    Shampoo: Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus (2 - 3 times/week)
    Fave Rinse-Out Conditioners: HE Hello Hydration; Yes to Blueberries; GVP Conditioning Balm;
Styling Routine: Squish-scrunch product /conditioner into soaking wet, upside down hair; plop for 10 minutes, air dry. (Diffuser dry front section.)
Fave Styling Products: KCKT; Tigi Curl Amplifier Creme; Batia & Aleeza gel; Giovanni Sunset Styler; LA Looks Sport Gel.

I only comb wet hair after showering if I'm wearing it straight that day. My hair doesn't need much encouragement to go straight rather than wavy!

    Wavy routine:
Rinse out conditioner upside down in the shower. Grab curl enhancer and scrunch it in gently to soaking wet hair, still upside down. Plop. After taking hair out of plop, I part my hair with my fingers then scrunch in gel right side up and then plop again.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Beauticurls, CJ Smoothing

    jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC
gels: CJ CQ, CJ Pattern Pusha, BRHG
