Vivscal hair supplements-My personal challenge

unique4meunique4me Posts: 135Registered Users
I am setting a personal challenge for myself to grow longer hair. I have been natural for over 4 years and my hair grows very slow. The last 2 years I have done protective styles, very seldom use heat and have only achieved about 2 1/2 inches of new growth, which was cut recently when I went to a hair salon and asked for a trim and received a hair cut instead. Now I am back to 8 inches of hair.
I used Viviscal hair supplements over 10 years ago when I was relaxed and my hair grew near my bra strap. I stopped taking them because I became pregnant and completely forgot about them. I recently saw Denimpixie (Elle) video's on viviscal and remembered I use to take them.
I started taking viviscal again on Oct 28th 2012 and will continue to take 2 daily for 1 year. I will show my progress every 3 or 4 months.
I have attached pictures of my hair as of today 12/17/12.
Has anyone else experienced hair growth with viviscal?

I am still using viviscal. It will be 6 months at the end of April. Some changes I have seen in my hair are: less shedding and breakage, thicker hair and growth.

I have been a slow grower or hardly any growth over the past 4 years I have been natural. I guess I average about 1/4 inch every month. Now with viviscal, I am getting about 1/2 inch of growth every month, which is average for some people, so people who get 1/2 inch every month would probably get 1 inch every month with viviscal. I am pleased with the 1/2 inch every month. I do know in the summer months my hair grows faster, so I believe I will reach my goal by the end of the year.

I have made some changes in my hair regimen. I have been using henna for the past 2 years. I henna every 2 months. My last henna was in Dec. 2012 and I was still seeing breakage, so I decided to not henna the rest of 2013 and see if the breakage stops. I figure the viviscal has marine protein and this should be enough protein for my hair.

I have also started more protective styling, but my grey hairs are around my hairline and since I stopped the henna the grey hairs are more visible with updos. Therefore, I am back to two strand twists covering the grey hairs. Maybe pulling the twists in a ponytail will work. I will have to work on finding a protective style that works for me.

My goal is bra strap length at the end of this year.
I have attached pictures of my progress as of today. I did not measure my hair. I just stretched it. The last picture shows my goal of line 9 1/2 will be the bottom of my bra strap.

Congratulations on your progress! How many pills do you have to take a day?

    congrats on your growth! :blob2:
the key for me is taking a regular multi vitamin, not anything specifically geared for hair. i am very anemic. if i don't stay up on my vitamins and iron, my hair either thins drastically or just falls out. i don't have an issue with 'growing' hair. it grows like a weed. it's keeping hair due to lack of necessary iron, minerals etc.
LOIS (OS); cottony, TYPE 4 hair, fine/med strands; no cones bcz my hair hates them; last relaxer '98; now low porosity:?, ignores most natural hair rules; BC #8

faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice

    Thanks Hippychic.
I have to continue to take multivitamins with iron too. Right now, I take multivitamins, omega 3, and viviscal daily.

I believe my slow hair growth is contributed to many factors, stress, being an older natural (dealing with menopause) and thinning hair as you get older. All these factors combined has taken a toil on my hair.

I'm just glad I'm seeing improvements. This just tells me, it's important to take care of what is going on inside your body along with how you care for the outside.

    Hello unique4me,
I am going to start taking Viviscal and I really want to track my hair growth and I love the shirt you have in the photo for just that purpose. Did you make the shirt yourself or did you purchase it somewhere?
    Thanks!! :toothy8:

    Hello Curlies,

I am still using viviscal. 2 pills daily. I have seen hair growth, but at a slow steady pace. I am 2 inches from bra strap length. I have added biotin to my hair supplements. I take 1, 2500 mcg daily. I switch to 5000 mcg, but noticed some hair shedding, so I have reduced the biotin back to 2500 mcg.
Hopefully, by March 2014, I will reach bra strap length. I will post more update pictures then.

I purchased the T-shirt from amazon.com. The t-shirt only had numbers on one side, so I added the same numbers on the other side.

Awesome! My mom is looking for something to help her hair grow thicker and faster. She has really thin hair and I remember viviscal but never tried it. I'll have to let her know. Nice progress and I love that shirt!!

Thanks. At first my hair seemed thicker, but now it is just getting longer, not thicker.

Why is it so hard to get those last few inches? Anyway, still growing but have not reached bra strap length yet. I stopped taking biotin a few days ago. My nails were breaking like crazy. Has anyone else experience this with biotin? Viviscal and multivitamins are the only supplements I'm taking. Will post pictures when I get to BSL.

Just keep moisturizing, sealing and tucking those ends away....they will get there.
