Hysterectomy scheduled

GoddessCurlsGoddessCurls Posts: 1,537Registered Users
Went to dr with all my symptoms today. Thankfully he gave me pain meds and told me to up my norethindrone from 2 to 3 per day. When it's time to take out NuvaRing dr says to not put another one in...the norethindrone should stop or atleast taper the bleeding so I don't die. They're taking uterus..and cervix. I will still have 2 tubes and an ovary left so I should be good. Any words of wisdom or encouragement would be great. I'm just gonna worry till 01/14/13. But atleast then it'll all be over!!

If at all possible, I would suggest having it done w/ the DiVinci robot. One day recovery!

    Hystersisters.com is a great resource.

It seems most women are very happy w/ their outcomes.

    Best wishes!

You're going to feel so much better! The surgery is much easier than you believe but it's normal to be nervous.

I also recommend you visit hystersisters.com. I was in the hospital 23 hrs, had mine in 08.

Don't worry, just focus on how much better you will feel!

I was born to be a pessimist. My blood type is B Negative.

Yes...I'm on HysterSisters. Between them and this place it's how I got thru this.lol
It's so nice to have a support system.

As far as Divinci...I can ask..the idea of a robot kinda creeps me out tho. I trust my dr..and even tho last surgery was way less and only a week recovery, my experience at this hospital was good..they were nice and thorough and made me relax which is hard to do.

I'm relieved a bit to have a clear end date. I have a good friend who went thru this and she is happy now. No periods.. Her sex drive is still there...sex is still good she feels like herself again. I'll have friends to do my grocery shopping. Which I think is all I'll need. I'm gonna get microwave stuff cause I know I won't wanna cook. I'm even getting my hair cut Friday...in anticipation of how much I'm not gonna feel like detangling long curls every day.

Oh...and I have been bloated and in pain...where it feels like I'll feel better after I poop...but when I do it still hurts. Dr said fibroids pressing on rectum making me feel like I gotta go all the time.

I know last surgery I laid on my couch and was so thankful to have this site to keep my mind off it. All my friends and family called and texted too. I had a nice little set up here on my couch. My ext chord next to the couch my kindle iPod iPhone my bottled water and my shortbread cookies..which is all I wanted to eat.

Technology can be wonderful! I wasn't alone at all.

Oh...another question. Can I possibly gain weight after this? Cause people have been saying I'm looking skinny...and I want some of my curves back. I figure it may be the stress of the sitch causing this.

Good luck! I don't have any personal experience but everybody I know who has had one has been extremely happy with the results. They were in so much pain and had so many issue prior, that it was a relief to feel normal.

My hair will be healthier too. Haven't been for a cut since last year I think. Gonna cut off all the damage and stop being so length obsessed. Try out shorter hair for a while

One of my cousins had a hysterectomy last year because of fibroids and endometriosis, but the took her ovaries too. You'll be fine. :) I lost an ovary and tube about 15 years ago but I'm fine too, no hormone problems. I'll be thinking about you! :)

Thanks guys. I am a bit nervous but kind of excited. Considering the date is relatively close and knowing this will all be over then. My friends and the few family members I have left are very supportive. I already got some visitors lined up for the hospital.

No more spotting, no more accidents, no more not being able to sleep thru then night during that time of the month because I'll make a mess. No more hormones and no more birth control. I'm excited.

I'm so jealous. I wish my doctor would agree to give me a hysterectomy because I am done and over with all my reproductive organs. I don't want kids of my own ever, so it's not like I'm going to need it. Cysts bursting on my ovary and a past hemorrhaging experience are awful and constant ovary pain is frustrating and sometimes debilitating.

Good luck! I hope it all goes well!

  • GoddessCurlsGoddessCurls Posts: 1,537Registered Users
Wow Sunshine! Have u gone to other doctors? U already have kids...u don't want more and u have a medical reason to want a hysterectomy? But he refuses? U should look elsewhere.

Normal to be nervous, but as the other posters said, everyone I know who did it was very satisfied with the result. Good luck and keep in touch with us!

Lol....I will so keep in touch. I'm essentially gonna be home, on my couch for over a month with not much energy or strength to do anything but watch tv..and browse the Internet on my phone..and read some on kindle. Last surgery this site, HysterSisters , Facebook and eBay...kept me sane. All my people texted me and I was on here, either worrying abt what was next or distracting myself with hair tips. Lol

I'm thinking when all this is over...it'll be abt tax refund time. I think I may get an iPad mini as my present.

I've gone to about 3 doctors and they all say they won't do it "in case." I don't have kids but have no desire to have my own, I'm completely happy being single or if I get married and he has kids then that's awesome. That's why they're refusing "just in case" I change my mind about kids. I've never wanted them and tell them that, but they still won't.

That's friggin infuriating!! How old are u if may ask? I'm 34 and have been saying this basically since I've had a period. Abt 2-3 years ago when I was getting my IUD replaced I was *****ing abt how they wouldn't tie my tubes...and she said yes they would. I would think maybe ud be able to sign something saying u wont sue if u change ur mind later...or something along those lines.

Man that really sucks....id be highly pissed off..might even see if there was anything legal I could do. I mean it's ur body. That's just infuriating!!

I know you like your doctor and that's sooooo important. But I would probably get another opinion bc I would be trying to avoid the abdominal incision if at all possible. And what one doctor can't do, another might be abe to.

(I'm not sure if there is a robot that can do it nonlaproscopically, or if DiVinci can be used nonlaproscopically.)

But either way, I know so many women who've had it done (in various ways, with various parts taken out and left in), and they are all great now.

    You will be, too.

I'll PM you my #. Call or text if you want to talk.

I'm 33 and basically in the same situation as you except I don't have kids and take BC, which significantly reduces my period flow now. The pain is still there, but at least the periods aren't heinous. Right now my doctor isn't on my insurance plan, so I might have to find another doctor to see if I can get another opinion. I have just paid out of pocket for the office visits this year.

I don't know that I want to go the legal route. My uncle is a personal injury lawyer and I'm more than confident he could handle it, but in general, I personally do not like the sue happy environment that has developed lately. I would rather try for another doctor's approval than suing.

I don't have kids either btw. Maybe the insurance thing is it? Cause by the time ur in ur 30's I think u know urself well enough to make a decision like that.

I don't think it's the insurance because she wouldn't be the one doing the surgery anyway and I could have the surgery at the insurance companies hospital so it was covered. I just kept seeing her when my insurance changed because she's an amazing doctor and I like her. Finding a wonderful doctor can be tedious and time consuming.

Ooooohhhh! Someone who IS in almost my exact situation! That might give me some leverage if I ask again and they tell me I'm too young or in case I want to have kids. Might have to pursue this a bit more...I love these boards and how helpful people are!

My family gave up ages ago...trying to get me to say maybe to kids. I don't really like them...and certainly not enuf to give them my body for a year. I have friends with kids and cousins so I can see then and play with them some. Thankfully people started realizing that I knew better what was best for me.

U know the horrible pain and heavy bleeding started last Thursday. It hasn't been non stop stabbing pain but at least painful bloat and a tender abdomen. The pain killers dr have me help..no more stabbing pain but I am exhausted...painfully bloated...so much so that it feels like when I eat the food doesn't go all the way down cause there is no room. I have this awful feeling that I'm gonna feel like this all the way till surgery....:(

I got a hair appt Friday...gonna go way shorter...1) because I need a change 2) because I think I look younger with shorter hair and 3) because I know it'll be easier for me to handle shorter

I shed normally a lot too when my hair is long it tangles so much...I shed tons less when it's shorter

I doubt it bc I have been under a lot of stress for a while but this started in the last week. It also coincided w/ a very aggressive color job...so it could be that, too.:silent:
